CREATE is our unique program specifically designed to address the needs of homeless or formerly homeless children; offering a safe haven for them to express themselves, unleash their creativity, heal, and grow into their full potential. We developed this curriculum to support our resident and community-based children in processing their challenges and learning techniques to navigate their emotions effectively—because most of them have only known lives without hope in ‘survival mode’. Right now, our summer campers are scaling new heights, spinning with hope, and sharing smiles over pizza! Engaging in CREATE activities—also infused into summer camp programming—promotes prosocial behavior and alleviates distress, ensuring every child feels valued and understood. A new report says nearly half of Floridians are having trouble making ends meet – despite being gainfully employed. That's 4.1 million out of 8.8 million families. The problem is more pronounced in the Tampa Bay area's rural counties. Forty-four percent in Hillsborough County are struggling, compared to 48% in Polk, 51% in Hernando and 53% in Citrus County. "I don't know if there's going to be one solution," says Metropolitan Ministries staff member Hasan El-Tayyeb. "I think there's going to be many small things that we do to get back to that point, if there is that possibility." Experiencing homelessness is traumatic, especially for children. That's why Metropolitan Ministries is dedicated to supporting these young ones through our PromiseLand Childcare Center and urgently call for volunteers and donations as we see an increasing number of children experiencing homelessness. Affording to live in our community is becoming increasingly difficult, with a shortage of affordable housing and rising rents pushing people out. High food costs add to the struggle, leaving many on low and fixed incomes in precarious situations. Emergencies often mean a financial setback that's hard to recover from. We've seen a 15% increase in seniors seeking help recently. One woman we met, currently on a waiting list for affordable housing, described herself as 'homeless with a roof' – living in a place without a kitchen or A/C, relying on our meal program to eat. Together, we must address these urgent needs. Metro Ministries urgently calls on those who can support our Emergency Family Crisis Response Campaign, now through June 30th. Financial donations will provide rent assistance, food, motel vouchers, and help with water and electricity bills. The community has an opportunity to make a significant difference in the lives of struggling families and prevent evictions and homelessness through this effort.
