As a passionate organizer and advocate turned data manager and campaign tech user, Jocelyn Ritcheson, one of our client success managers at NGP VAN, empowers diverse groups with effective organizing tools and data-driven strategies to help achieve their goals. After the Sandy Hook school shooting, Jocelyn was pulled into the advocacy space because she felt she needed to do something to ensure her young kids grew up in a safer society. Jocelyn found that opportunity with a new gun violence prevention organization — Moms Demand Action. “I was meeting with survivors, legislators, and activists, and bringing my kids along because I wanted to instill in them the notion that civic engagement matters. It was important for me to show them that powerful stuff can happen when we speak out and do the right thing.” Working to organize and mobilize gun violence prevention activists on the ground, Jocelyn helped quickly launch multiple advocacy campaigns — from writing letters to legislators to texting voters to coordinating actions at the Arizona State Legislature. After Moms Demand Action merged with Mayors Against Gun Violence and relaunched as Everytown for Gun Safety, she became one of the organization’s data managers where she encouraged them to adopt new tech earlier to help drive more impact for their organization. Because of her work, she met one of the co-founders of Mobilize and they quickly connected over their shared interest in using tech to advance the progressive movement. She would eventually join the Mobilize team and serve as one of their client success managers. Whether it’s a food bank, campaign, or advocacy organization, Jocelyn serves as the main point of contact for clients — helping them address various questions or just to chat about how our tools can help them achieve their goals. Jocelyn also serves as a thought partner to help clients understand how to make the most of our tools. From explaining data mapping to growing lists of supporters and more, she walks them through their programs to make sure everything works how they need it to. “The strategies and tactics may look different, but organizing is organizing. You need people to act, but they need an easy and enjoyable way to do that. I think Mobilize provides that positive experience for volunteers, while collecting data to drive more action in the future.” Thank you, Jocelyn! We’re so proud of you and your work here at NGP VAN! 💙
