In the early decades of Ohio's statehood, a doctor from New York decided to establish a practice in the bustling city of Cincinnati. He quickly discovered two things: He'd rather live in a less-populated town, and he wanted to concentrate on the field of dentistry. Dr. John Harris settled in the tiny Ross County village of Bainbridge, some 75 miles east of the big city. He set up shop in a small house on Main Street, and a couple of years later began to teach students about fixing teeth. With that initial class in 1827, Dr. Harris established the first dental school in the United States. That surprising fact, as well as history of early dentistry and implements of many kinds, can be discovered at the Dr. John Harris Dental Museum, housed in the same building on West Main Street where Harris lived and practiced. https://lnkd.in/gx7tjCQj

Governor Mike DeWine and First Lady Fran DeWine recently toured Ohio’s newest state park, Great Council State Park. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ 76th state park celebrates Ohio’s Shawnee history and pioneer past. The park’s 12,000-square-foot interpretative center is modeled after a traditional Shawnee longhouse. https://lnkd.in/gNufVsfR
