Together, we will create a world without cancer.

About us

Our mission is to provide critical funding for cancer research at Siteman Cancer Center and Siteman Kids at St. Louis Children’s Hospital through our annual cycling challenge. It is our hope that research funded by Pedal the Cause will ultimately lead to a cure for cancer. Founded in 2009 with the bold model of using 100% of raised donations to fund world-class cancer research, Pedal the Cause has quickly become the gateway to curing cancer – all cancers, for everyone. In this period of diminished federal funding where support typically gets funneled to already proven concepts, many potential new ideas are not deemed eligible. Pedal the Cause donations “seed” best-in-breed ideas at our beneficiaries to allow the cultivation of proof of concept and critical data. These seeded projects often turn into groundbreaking results that lead to new treatments and cures, preventions, and early detection diagnostics. Additionally, donations from Pedal the Cause make a positive economic impact in the St. Louis community as stronger research funding will continue to support this high profile and critically important segment of the St. Louis economy. Since 2010, Pedal the Cause has donated over $32 million to fund cancer research.

🏅 Clayco is back as a our Course & Medal Sponsor for 2024! In addition to this support, Team Clayco has raised over $655,000 for cancer research since 2011. Their mantra 'Beyond These Walls’ is exemplified by their recent project: the new Siteman Cancer Center Ambulatory Cancer Building. 📕 A special story behind this project is that of Brenden Goforth. Diagnosed with cancer at age 13, Brenden underwent about 10 surgeries before graduating high school. Now, he is a part of Clayco's Concrete Strategies team and is helping to build the very center that supports patients like him. 💪 "If someone would have told me when I was 13 that in 15 years I’d be building a 658,000-square-foot building to help cancer patients like myself, I would not have dared to believe it," Brenden said. He credits Siteman Cancer Center with saving his life and looks forward to volunteering with the Clayco team at this year’s Pedal the Cause. ❤️ Thank you Team Clayco for not only helping to build a stronger community but for supporting our mission to create #aworldwithoutcancer.

Dr. Jeff Bednarski, pediatric hematologist and oncologist at Siteman Kids at St. Louis Children's Hospital, talks about his Phase II Clinical Trial using NK Cells (Natural Kills Cells) to treat kids with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). Pedal the Cause has funded Dr. Bednarski six times since 2012, including the initial research and Phase I Trial of this study. "This work doesn't happen without donations," said Bednarski. "Donating to Pedal the Cause, supporting the work that's being done at Siteman and Siteman Kids is making a difference." https://bit.ly/45J28CC

This year, we proudly presented the Dan & Sheila Timm Breakaway Award to Nicole Stubblefield, our youngest recipient yet! 🎉 In 2021, we created the award to honor individuals who passionately lead efforts to innovate, bring hope and empower positive change for those affected by cancer. Nicole’s journey with Pedal began at 24, supporting her father Greg "Stubby" Stubblefield in his battle with head and neck cancer. She started Team Stubby Strong with him in 2017. Now in his memory, she continues to lead the team. Team Stubby Strong has raised over $533,000, earning their place in the Pedal the Cause Gold Impact Society. Nicole herself is the third all-time fundraiser in Pedal history, personally raising over $413,000!🙌 As our youngest board member, Nicole's unwavering commitment and leadership continue to inspire the next generation. With seven years on the Podium, and set to make it eight in 2024, her dedication is truly exemplary. Congratulations, Nicole, on this well-deserved award! Thank you for making such a profound impact! 🚴♀️🏆
