Who hasn’t done a video interview in this ever-changing digital landscape? We wanted to share some of the best tips that we give our candidates to help prepare them for their video interviews, and we hope you gain some value from them too! 1️. Tech Check: Ensure your tech setup is flawless. Test your camera, microphone, and internet connection in advance- and please join early just in case! A smooth interview experience starts with a reliable tech foundation. 2️. Professional Setting: Choose a quiet, well-lit space for your interview. Make sure the background is tidy and professional, perhaps using a blur virtual background to assist. A clutter-free environment ensures the focus stays on you and your skills. 3️. Dress the Part: Dress professionally, just as you would for an in-person interview. And yes, even your bottom half! You never know when you may have to stand up during an interview. Looking the part helps boost your confidence and presents a positive impression to the interviewer. 4️. Maintain Eye Contact: Place your camera at eye level and maintain eye contact throughout the interview. This simple trick creates a sense of connection and engagement. 5️. Practice, but Don't Overdo It: Practice answering common interview questions in front of a mirror or with a friend. However, avoid sounding rehearsed. Genuine responses are key. 6️. Mind Your Body Language: Sit up straight, smile, and use expressive gestures to convey enthusiasm. Positive body language contributes to a favorable first impression. 7️. Minimize Distractions: Inform household members about your interview time to minimize interruptions. Silence your phone and close unnecessary tabs on your computer. 8️. Research the Company: Demonstrate your interest by researching the company beforehand. Being knowledgeable about the organization shows your commitment to the role. 9️. Ask Thoughtful Questions: Prepare questions for the interviewer to showcase your genuine interest and curiosity about the company and the role. 10. Follow Up: Send a thank-you email within 24 hours expressing your appreciation for the opportunity. Reiterate your interest and highlight how your skills align with the position. It's good to keep in mind that success in a virtual interview is not just about your qualifications, but also about how you present yourself in a digital setting. Best of luck to all candidates and let PeerSource know if we can help!
