About us

Project Sweet Peas is a 501(c)3 national non-profit organization coordinated by volunteers, who through personal experience have become passionate about providing support to families of premature or sick infants and to those who have been affected by pregnancy and infant loss. Project Sweet Peas acknowledges the importance of parental involvement in caregiving and decision-making in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), and seeks to promote family-centered care (FCC) competencies in hospitals nationwide. Care packages, hospital events, peer-to-peer support, financial aid, educational materials, and other Project Sweet Peas services, support the cultural, spiritual, emotional, and financial needs of families as they endure life in the NICU. Project Sweet Peas makes a lifelong commitment to support families experiencing pregnancy and infant loss. In a baby’s last moments, families are encouraged to make cherished memories with custom Project Sweet Peas keepsake items. Healing and remembrance continue to be fostered through programming such as peer-to-peer support, and our annual candlelight vigil. Through our services, we give from our hearts, to inspire families with the hope of tomorrow.

Project Sweet Peas is partnering with Kristin Vanderlip to offer NICU and bereaved families virtual journaling workshops so that you can tap into the healing power of journaling. During this free, live, 40-minute Zoom workshop, Kristin will lead you through a series of reflective journaling prompts to help you process your NICU journey and help you find healing and hope through journaling. You'll be able to apply the framework from this session to your own journaling practice and tap into the healing benefits of writing. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gMEpfbSb — These workshops are open to parents no matter how much time has passed since your child’s time in the NICU or since their death. No prior writing or journaling experience required. Due to the sacred nature of these events, recordings are not available. To create a safe environment, mics will remain muted and you will not be asked to share anything you write.

As we close out 2023, we want to take the opportunity to thank you for your support this year. Together, we have accomplished so much and don't plan to slow down anytime soon! Thanks to your generosity, we were able to support over 25,000 NICU and bereaved families as of early December. With over 20,000 NICU packages delivered, which included holiday, milestone, and graduation kits, $42,000+ in funding provided directly to NICU families, 1,500+ memory boxes, and 21,000+ miscellaneous items donated, we are proud of the impact we created together in 2023. We will be sure to post final totals soon. Thank you for an incredible year. 💚 Please consider a year-end gift to give hope to families in 2024. 💚

NICU Mom Melissa Cosgrove wrote, "Delivering a little hope and holiday cheer to the parents spending the holidays by their newborn's bedsides in the NICU. Thank you to everyone who donated books. Doing things like this helps to heal my NICU mama heart." We couldn't have said it better Melissa! Thank you and your little sweet pea for packing these special gifts for the families at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania! #projectsweetpeas
