Retired nurse, Stephanie, cares for her three grandchildren in her Northeast Ohio home and hasn’t had much time to devote to home maintenance projects. Together with Beacon Building Products, Rebuilding Together Northeast Ohio provided landscaping as well as home safety repairs, including a handrail for the front steps, so Stephanie can rest easy knowing her home is safe for her family. Our community revitalization partnership approach means that we collaborate with neighbors, community leaders, volunteers and local organizations to revitalize neighborhoods across the country with safe and accessible homes. Rebuild a Block – a multi-home rebuild initiative in six communities across the country, now in its second year – reflects this approach! Recently Rebuilding Together Nashville and Lowe's Companies, Inc. volunteers performed spring cleanup, beautification projects and general maintenance on three of the six homes in Nashville receiving repairs to make the homes safer, healthier and better suited for aging in place. Rebuilding Together recently elected Greg Ulmer to our board of directors! Greg is the President of the Aeronautics business area at Lockheed Martin — a more than $25 billion enterprise employing approximately 35,000 people. Previously, Greg was the Vice President and General Manager of the F-35 Lightning II program. He has held various other leadership roles and led several critical initiatives for Lockheed Martin throughout his career. Our partnership with Salal Credit Union is providing essential repairs for women-focused community spaces so they can continue doing impactful work in their communities. For more than two decades, New Connections in Tacoma, Wash. has provided housing and support for single women, women with children, justice impacted people and families—particularly those with limited resources—and people experiencing homelessness so they can get a fresh start. Last month, Rebuilding Together South Sound and volunteers from #SalalCreditUnion provided New Connections with essential, no-cost home safety repairs so it can continue to offer residents safe housing and support. A tangled title can result when a home is passed down informally from generation to generation, often because a homeowner passes away without a will. This complex issue, largely impacting low-income homeowners, can affect an individual’s ability to maintain their home and build generational wealth. In 2022, Rebuilding Together and Wells Fargo launched the Heirs’ Property pilot initiative to provide educational outreach, free legal assistance and estate planning services to neighbors in need. Local affiliates are working to address title issues and preserve generational wealth for low-income households across the country.
