We are currently investigating, through a planned inspection, matters which may indicate serious failings in the landlord delivering the outcomes of the Safety and Quality Standard. Regulating registered social housing providers in England to promote a viable, efficient and well-governed sector.
About us
The Regulator of Social Housing is a non-departmental public body sponsored by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government. RSH regulates registered providers of social housing to promote a viable, efficient and well-governed social housing sector able to deliver homes that meet a range of needs. The objectives of the regulator are set out in the Housing and Regeneration Act 2008 (as amended). We undertake economic regulation, focusing on governance, financial viability and value for money that maintains lender confidence and protects the taxpayer. We also set consumer standards and may take action if these standards are breached and there is a significant risk of serious detriment to tenants or potential tenants. Bristol City Council, Guildford Borough Council, Octavia Housing and Sheffield City Council have each failed to meet RSH’s new consumer standards, which were introduced on 1 April 2024 as part of a series of changes to our role, intended to drive landlords to deliver long-term improvements for tenants. Cambridge City Council has not met RSH’s rent standard and as a result overcharged around 3,600 tenants. Find out more about our latest judgements: https://bit.ly/3xNNkWW
