Over the past month, we've shared some incredible insights from our 2024 Solar Industry Report, created in partnership with NABCEP: North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners. We polled hundreds of solar professionals, including installers, wholesalers, and manufacturers, to gain insight into the future of solar energy. Here's a breakdown of the 4 key insights we want to highlight as we move into the remainder of the year.

Finding the best installation equipment is crucial for a successful solar company and impacts its sales! According to our report, these are the top five qualities solar companies look for when choosing a module brand: 1st: Performance / Quality 2nd: Brand name / Reputation 3rd: Product Warranty 4th: Pricing 5th: Product availability All of these factors considered, respondents chose Qcells North America as their top pick, with Enphase Energy right behind for both inverters and batteries! We’re not surprised — Qcells has also topped the SolarReviews “Best Solar Panel Brands” list for two years in a row! 

Solar panels are generally maintenance-free, but because solar panels are meant to last over 25 years, some maintenance issues are bound to arise. According to installers, the most common maintenance needs are: - Inverter/ hardware failure and replacement - Battery software setup issues - Roof leaks - Wiring issues Oftentimes, homeowners will be covered by a warranty, but by thinking one step ahead and adding a Solar Insure insurance plan, you’ll be covered even if your solar company goes out of business over those 25+ years. California, once a leader in solar panel adoption, hit a roadblock with the introduction of a new Net Metering policy at exactly this time in 2023. Because of that, the California solar market has changed significantly over the last year: - 69% of installers report lower sales  - The average installer has laid off at least 5 workers - 76% of companies are concerned about their ability to meet their cashflow California Solar & Storage Association CEO states: “Solar companies are working harder than ever to stay afloat, but our market has been set back 10 years, and the state continues to throw up obstacle after obstacle to the adoption of solar and storage. It’s like a Bizzaro World out here.” One thing remains true, though: The high cost of electricity in California will keep solar as a viable option for homeowners, even if they will not be getting paid for their excess energy.
