Better Healthcare. Stronger Communities.

About us

We operate a 384-bed acute care hospital, two community-based health clinics, and one of the largest and busiest private emergency trauma centers in Los Angeles County — treating 84,400 children and adults each year. Last year, more than 5,000 babies were born at SFMC’s Family Life Center, with 875 babies cared for in our state-of-the-art Neonatal Intensive Care Center. Our Healthy Community Initiatives bring health care services to children and families in their schools and neighborhoods. In addition, we operate the Children’s Counseling Center for abused and neglected children, a Health Benefits Resource Center to link individuals and families to health insurance and social service programs, and a broad range of educational and community services programs that improve the health and well-being of children, adults, and seniors throughout our service area.

  • Help with Finding Patient's Family - We are seeking the community's help with locating the family of one of our patients. She is female, about 98 years old. We believe her name is Maria Perez. She has gray hair and dark brown eyes. She is approximately 4'9" and 85 lbs. She speaks Spanish but is not able to convey information that would assist us with finding her family. If you are a family member of this patient or know how we can reach her next-of-kin, please contact our Social Services Department at (310) 900-8630. After hours and weekends call (310) 900-7586 and ask for Social Services. We hope to connect her to her loved ones soon.

  • Our summer Career Exploration Program included high school-aged family members of our own employees and physicians. Similar to our spring and fall sessions for local high schoolers, this session gave students an interactive introduction to healthcare careers. Students ran through a mock trauma; reviewed Imaging technologies available for diagnosing and treating health issues and experienced procedures from a provider's and patient's perspective; observed firsthand our Laboratory services comprising chemistry, hematology, microbiology, pathology, blood bank, phlebotomy, and more; learned the important role of public safety at a hospital; and gained insights into patient care delivery and hospital operations. The students return in July for session 2 when they will visit four more vital departments at the hospital. Family members and staff enjoyed sharing knowledge and inspiring our future family of healthcare professionals.

  • Thank you, Talking Angels, for donating beautiful keepsake blankets for our Family Life Center patients. The blankets give a "warm" welcome to the babies born at St. Francis. Chandra Heyman, Talking Angels founder, has donated more than 5,000 blankets in the past six years to hospitals throughout the Southland, as well as across the country and globally. Her blankets have been gifted to the families of newborns and NICU babies, and to cancer patients. She was inspired by two very personal experiences – illnesses suffered by her stepfather and later her mother. Chandra witnessed how compassion and kindness brought comfort to her loved ones. As her website states, "The mission of Talking Angels is not to take away the emotional pain during the medical treatment and/or chronic illness of a loved one, but to ease it." Thank you, Chandra and to your team at Talking Angels, for the comforting touch your blankets bring to patients and families. We feel the loving care you wrap in each gift.

  • St. Francis Medical Center enjoys giving our maternity patients a special greeting and introduction to our hospital at our monthly Welcome Sessions. Hosted in English and Spanish, our sessions offer moms-to-be and their support person the opportunity to learn about our full range of maternity services. These include prenatal, childbirth and postpartum care, a level III NICU, high-risk maternal-fetal medicine, a laborist panel for onsite 24/7 OB/GYN availability, and a dedicated OB Emergency Department. Moms are also connected to resources available through First 5 LA's Welcome Baby program, WIC, Mother's Nutritional Center, and our Health Benefits Resource Center. The sessions conclude with a tour of our state-of-the-art Family Life Center, where moms can meet members of our healthcare team. We feel privileged to share this joyous occasion with expectant parents. Congratulations to the families!

  • In support of National CPR Week June 1-7, St. Francis Medical Center, a member of Prime Healthcare, provided free "Hands-Only CPR" instruction today in collaboration with the Los Angeles County Emergency Medical Services Agency. Nurses from our STEMI team demonstrated the proper techniques of hands-only CPR, comprising strong, fast, rhythmic chest compressions without the rescue breaths. The session gave participants the opportunity to practice the technique on CPR simulator mannequins and provided information on additional resources. According to research reported by the American Heart Association (AHA), hands-only CPR can be as effective as traditional CPR with rescue breaths when it is performed in the first critical minutes of an adult experiencing cardiac arrest outside the hospital. 70% of cardiac arrests occur at home. Knowing hands-only CPR could save the life of a loved one.
