What’s different about living in a developing nation when experiencing a devastating hurricane like #hurricaneBeryl? People in developing countries are significantly more likely to experience injury or death during a major storm. They are also more likely to lose their home, and the safety that comes along with it. As climate change worsens the frequency and intensity of weather disasters, it is imperative that we support communities facing storm impacts build resilience to these and other climate disasters. #hurricaneseason #severeweather #climatechange #stormdamage

About us
ISC is an international, non-profit organization that works to support communities by creating, implementing, and scaling equitable climate change solutions for communities at the frontline of the global climate crisis. Our unique, bottom-up approach ensures solutions emerge from within communities, rather than being imposed from the outside. By sharing international best practices and experiences, providing technical expertise and training, and building the capacity of local organizations, we support innovative solutions and sustainable change. We address the root causes of climate change impacts by building community knowledge and skills, strengthening governance, and diversifying the field of sustainability professionals. Our approach incorporates capacity building, technical assistance delivery, knowledge products, climate change action planning, and peer learning.

Hurricanes don’t spread damage equitably. The truth is that countries like those impacted by Hurricane Beryl produce the least amount of climate emissions, but experience significantly more damage than more developed nations. As climate change worsens, hurricanes will only continue to grow more frequent and catastrophic. We must take action today to mitigate the damage caused by climate disasters. #hurricaneBeryl #severeweather #climatechange #stormdamage

Warmer ocean waters = stronger storms that bring devastating impacts to communities. Peak hurricane season isn’t typically until August or September, yet this year, ocean waters are already as hot as they are in mid-September. It’s only July. Hurricane Beryl—the earliest catastrophic hurricane on record—has already devastated parts of the Caribbean. It will likely bring more damage and loss of life as it moves on. According to the Prime Minister of Grenada—which was impacted in the storm—Beryl is “clear and overwhelming evidence of the fact that we are constantly facing an existential threat to our way of life.” Learn more at https://wapo.st/4cJJcpO #hurricaneBeryl #severeweather #climatechange #stormdamage

Honoring #Juneteenth: On June 19, 1865, nearly two years after President Abraham Lincoln emancipated enslaved Africans in America, Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas with news of freedom. More than 250,000 Black Americans embraced freedom by executive decree in what became known as Juneteenth or Freedom Day. The theme for this year is "Their Wildest Dreams," which is dedicated to celebrating and honoring the legacy, remarkable achievements, and accomplishments of the Black community. We are honored to join in recognizing and celebrating the dreams that have driven these achievements. #equity #blackhistory #celebration

He also spoke on the role climate action plays in multiple areas—not just in alleviating current and future harms—but in driving a more equitable, economically prosperous, and sustainable world. At ISC, we work directly at the intersection of climate, equity, and sustainable development to support communities on the frontlines of the climate crisis.
