  • Mr. Zach Wallace, Easton Elementary School P.E. Teacher has received Superintendent Sharon Pepukayi, Ed.D.'s final Transforming and Performing Award for the 23-24 school year! He was nominated by a colleague and TCPS parent. "I nominate Zach Wallace for the TCPS Performing and Transforming Award because Mr. Wallace has helped make my kids transition to EES fun and seamless. My children (one in K and one in Pre-K) look forward to seeing Mr. Wallace. They LOVE when he is on bus duty and telling him good morning. My daughter has a lot of energy and he quickly built a connection with her and was able to channel her energy for good and inspire her and encourage her to be a leader. She loves joking around with Mr. Wallace and him taking the time to make that connection with her and later with my son has made their school day a little brighter. " "Mr. Wallace also helps to run the Gentleman’s Club at EES and I love seeing our youth out at basketball games and football games asking questions and in fellowship together at an event they may not otherwise experience. He is always open to learn and try new things in PD’s around the county- he shares great examples and wonderful ideas about connecting with students and is a wonderful example of a teacher who genuinely cares for their students. I am writing this as a parent/staff member, but really the nomination comes from my kiddos. My son says, “Mr. Wallace asks me about my baseball team and my crazy sisters” and my daughter says, “Mr. Wallace always makes me feel happy in PE even if I’m having a sad day.” Thank you Mr. Wallace for teaching the whole child." #transformingandperforming

  • This month the spotlight is on Laura Holmes, Early Childhood Literacy Coach! How many years have you worked for TCPS? I've worked for TCPS for 14 years. I grew up in N.C. and moved to Talbot County in 2010. Is there anything else you would like to share about your educational background (certifications, licenses, etc.)? I graduated with a degree in Elementary Education in 2008, Masters in Reading Education in 2010, and am certified to teach Early Childhood Education. What are your favorite things about your job? Making a difference in the lives of our youngest learners, building lasting relationships with students, families, and colleagues, being able to witness the academic, social, and emotional growth of students as they accomplish new milestones and goals, and celebrating the joy of discovery firsthand. How long have you been in your current position? This is my second year as an Early Childhood Literacy Coach. What is something most people don’t know about your job? In my role, I work in 5 elementary schools, with 35 educators, and over 500 students. What is something most people would be surprised to know about you? I learned how to water ski around the age of 5 and grew up actively water skiing each summer on the river in my hometown. What are your favorite things to do when you are not working? When I'm not working, I enjoy being with my family, going to the beach, visiting family in N.C., boating, reading, and being outside. What would you like to share about your family? My husband, John, and I have two active little boys (ages 6 and 4). They keep us busy and fill our hearts with so much love. Laura was nominated by a colleague who said, "Laura is one of the most genuine, nurturing, and understanding individuals I have had the opportunity to work with. She works across the district supporting teachers in pre-kindergarten and Kindergarten. Her support includes offering professional development, coaching staff, and assisting teachers/teams with accessing materials to provide the best instruction they can to our students. Mrs. Holmes coordinates events for families that are engaging and bring a sense of community among the school, students, and families. Her outreach for community support, organization of resources, and willingness to work with teams are just a few of her wonderful assets. Mrs. Holmes has worked through accreditation in many buildings and supported the staff in the various steps of the process. She is a ray of sunshine each and every day!"
