In the Multiply sessions, Clare contributed enthusiastically to all discussions, voicing her opinions on the core subjects of healthy eating, calories, shopping, food preparation, exercise, travel and budgeting. Clare now understands how percentages are worked out in everyday life, such as recommendations for different food groups and discounts offered in shops and online. Clare gained considerable confidence in carrying out a variety of numeracy tasks. "I can work out percentages used in everyday life." She suggested to Zahida that it would be beneficial for her too, knowing that she wanted to develop her confidence to improve her communication skills in a professional environment. During the Multiply sessions, Zahida learned about budgeting, reading public transport timetables, calculating time and wages, tax, National Insurance, and pensions. Another session covered Maths from the school curriculum. Zahida learned to speak and present herself to a group while learning new Maths calculation methods and recapping on previous knowledge. Zahida uses her new skills at home in everyday life to combat the rising cost of living. She now understands how to read timetables for public transport which allows her to travel further for shopping and meet friends. She can also now understand and help with homework. Her confidence improved through involvement in group discussions, and the class setting provided the professional environment she wanted to experience. "I learnt budgeting skills to help with the rising cost of living." She was disappointed to have failed her Maths GCSE and she thought that Maths wasn't a subject for her. Despite her lack of confidence, Alannah wanted to gain a Maths qualification so attended Multiply sessions. There was a positive change in Alannah and her attitude towards completing tasks and achievements. Alannah attended sessions covering basic Maths. She progressed onto more complex numeracy courses as her confidence grew. Alannah even completed a mock exam, which demonstrated her progression. Since completing the sessions, Alannah has enrolled on the Maths Functional Skills course and hopes this will support future employment opportunities. "I really enjoyed the Multiply sessions.
