Being a remote nurse is not so much a specialty area but rather a setting in which you do a specialty job. 2) Understand your motives. Are you trying to run away from something, or are you truly running towards something? 3) Learn the different remote nursing job roles first. Identify 2-3 remote nursing job roles to target. 4) Don’t limit yourself by your physical location. For many remote nursing jobs, it’s less about where you live exactly and more about which states you are licensed to practice in. 5) Get familiar with the Nurse Compact License. If you live in one of the 35+ states that are part of the nurse compact agreement, upgrade your license and open yourself up to more remote nursing opportunities. 6) Understand the market. Do not attach your self worth with a skewed market! The competition is unbelievable and the difficulty in landing a remote job is not a reflection of you or your capabilities. 7) Get familiar with job hunting in the digital age. Know that your resume is likely being read by robots first. Make sure your resume is ATS (Applicant Tracking System)-Friendly. Simple, clear formatting. Tweak words to match the job description. 8 ) Set an action plan & stay committed. Landing a remote nursing job may take several months of committed efforts, applications, and networking. 9) Pull in extra resources. Learn new skills. Gain job role experience in your local area. Network with others who work at companies you want to work for! Get on LinkedIn and connect with recruiters for those companies. 10) Stay positive and know, truly, that the opportunities meant for you will arrive in due time, even if that’s not remote nursing.
