On June 26th, Governor Newsom signed the Budget Act of 2024, Assembly Bill 107, followed on June 29th by his signing of two “budget bill juniors,” Senate Bills 108 and 109. The 2024 budget package balances the budget for 2024-25 and 2025-26, yet restores several investments originally proposed for reduction or elimination in response to a multi-billion-dollar deficit Among the wins is an increase in monthly SILP payments to foster youth like those Unity Care serves to $2,288, beginning July 1, 2027! Our friends at John Burton Advocates for Youth explain why this increase matters to foster youth Unity Care serves - https://lnkd.in/gSCiinRn

For his Eagle Scout project, Jett created hygiene kits for Unity Care's Monterey County clients. He spent weeks collecting essentials such as laundry detergent, deodorant, shampoo, and chapstick. Now, when we welcome clients exiting the foster care system to their Unity Care home, they'll receive one of Jett's kits! Thank you, Jett, for showing our Unity Care youth their community is with them when they enter adulthood! ♥️ Do you have an idea for a service project that could benefit Unity Care's youth? Email us at development@unitycare.org, and we'll be in touch!

Did you know up to 65% of children in foster care struggle with at least one mental health issue? That's double the rate of their non-foster peers. Well-being is one of Unity Care's five core pillars, along with housing, education, employment, and unconditional care. As our clients transition from foster care to independence, a healthy body, mind, and spirit are critical to their success. #healthykids #fostercare Read more here: https://shorturl.at/y9Vyq

Shout out to Erick, one of our youth, for earning his barber's license and securing full-time work as a barber! We are grateful to the Thomas and Ellen Hogue Foundation for helping to fund Erick's scholarship to barber school. #ittakesavillage
