Today is the first day of summer in the Northern Hemisphere, known as summer solstice. As we enter the warmest season of the year, promoting heat resilience can help ensure preparedness for our people, properties, and planet to deal with increasing (in some cases, extreme) heat. Here are a few solutions to help bolster heat resilience in the built environment: - Plant native trees and vegetation that provide shade and canopy that reduce direct sunlight - Implement cool roofs, roofs with a high solar reflectance index (SRI), which absorb sunlight, provide shade, and have evapotranspiration cooling effects - Install cool pavements, materials that reflect more solar energy and enhance water evaporation, which remain cooler than conventional pavements - Install double or triple-pane windows that reduce the heat transfer from outside air to inside air - Opt for energy-efficient heat pumps to reduce inside temperatures (heat pumps can cool a building with lower energy use, energy costs, and GHG emissions than traditional AC). To learn more about enhancing heat resilience and solutions to stay cool this summer, check out this link: https://lnkd.in/gJKnFX8e.
