    A year ago today, Dr. Cecilia Luedloff, a Washington Regional neonatologist, was making breakfast for her kids when a stroke suddenly left her unable to speak or move her right side. Today, she’s able to hug her kids and care for her patients in the NICU thanks to Washington Regional’s stroke team and the stroke alert system she says saved her life.     With high temperatures and humidity comes the potential for heat-related illness such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke. This graphic from the Centers for Disease Control shows the different warning signs of each condition to watch for. Remember that heat stroke is a medical emergency. If you believe someone is experiencing heat stroke, call 911 immediately!

    There is no safe amount of time to leave a child in a car. Even with the windows cracked on an 80 degree day, the temperature inside a car can reach upwards of 123 degrees. Dr. Cam Mosley of the Washington Regional Emergency Department talks about the dangers of leaving children in hot cars and tips to help you remember to check your backseat before getting out of the car.
