Today, 230+ public high school students started their work-based internships with 75+ local employers! They’re bringing work readiness and soft skills they’ve honed over the past four weeks in intensive training with YouthForce NOLA coaches. We are thankful for the awesome supervisors who have stepped up to mentor these young people and are excited to hear about the great work they will do this summer.

This Pride Month, YouthForce NOLA celebrates the people and movements that have made strides in creating a city more welcoming for our young people to show up as their authentic selves– in their personal lives and in the workplace. Almost 47 years ago, over 2,500 demonstrators representing the Human Equal Rights for Everyone coalition took to the streets to protest a concert performed by Anita Bryant, a vocal homophobe working to repeal anti-discrimination ordinances. You can learn more about the history of the LGBTQIA+ rights movement in Louisiana through the collection of resources linked below, including materials from 64 Parishes, New Orleans Public Library, and the LGBT ARCHIVES PROJECT OF LOUISIANA INC. https://lnkd.in/gCH64wxC

The results are in: high school graduates taking part in career-connected learning experiences make outstanding strides in education and work after high school. After surveying alumni involved in YouthForce NOLA’s Internship and/or with training providers at Gateway EMS, New Orleans Career Center, New Orleans Video Access Center, and Operation Spark, 97% of alumni continued into higher education and/or obtained a job after completing one or more career-connected learning opportunities. And, our alumni are making more money, on average, than their peers. Check out the full results through the link below! https://lnkd.in/gdfWzgvn
