The personal tax deadline has come and gone, and that sometimes stressful time of year is over for those of us who were able to file on time. Our team here at UpSide Accounting was able to enjoy a day or two of much-needed “me time” and recharge their batteries. Mickel was able to reflect on the tax season and some of the trends he noticed! Several clients took advantage of the FHSA (First Home Savings Account) in late 2023 and again in early 2024 and some have already bought a house! With some rule changes in the DTC (Disability Tax Credit), more people who qualify were able to apply and receive it. A lot of positive feedback using our tax program, clients are easily able to upload documents and communicate with our team. Have an accounting professional in your life? Use them! Questions about major purchases throughout the year? Ask them first. Mickel also shared an organizational tool he uses to keep his own family's financials in line to make sure his tax return is as painless as can be. Set up a Google Drive folder at the beginning of the year, and use it to store any relevant tax documents that you receive throughout the year. Things like: Capital gain reports Donation receipts Medical receipts Put them in there as soon as you receive them to avoid a headache trying to find them later. Staying organized throughout the year helps streamline the return process for both the client and the accounting professional!
