The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Conference is in a few weeks and we will discover exciting and innovative ways to better treat cancer. When I was first brainstorming ideas for my business name, my 8-year-old daughter’s suggestion was ‘Gretchen Granting Wishes.’ Although it’s been the source of family laughs ever since, I never imagined how fittingly that name would reflect the core of my work as a leadership and transitions coach. I recently received the best kind of update from a female physician I’ve been coaching. She has been navigating a career pivot into non-clinical medicine, juggling multiple contingency options while awaiting her dream job. Together, we crafted a clear vision and clarified her values and non-negotiables, empowering her to say no to the wrong opportunities while waiting for the perfect fit. Yesterday, her patience paid off as she secured her dream job. As she shared, 'It was helpful to learn how to say no in order to wait for the right opportunity. If not for your coaching, I probably would have settled on the first opportunity rather than waiting for the right fit.' While 'Gretchen Granting Wishes' didn't become my business name, the sentiment certainly rings true. Helping others achieve their goals and aspirations is the ultimate reward.
