Did you know..... that last year, 266 Representatives showed bipartisan support by signing a crucial letter for health center funding. Today, just 41 signatures are needed to meet that same goal. Your action can help Community Health Centers secure continued support in Congress. Call your Representative and urge them to sign this year's bipartisan letter for health center funding in Fiscal Year 2025! It's vital for Congress to understand the importance of this issue to their constituents. Every voice matters, so let's emphasize why health centers are crucial to ourselves and our communities. When Congress determines federal spending levels, they need to see a strong bipartisan consensus in favor of CHC funding. This funding ensures stability for our essential healthcare homes, allowing us to: 👩⚕️ Care for over 31.5 million patients regardless of insurance status. 🚑 Keep patients out of the emergency room through preventive, coordinated care. 💼 Support over 500,000 jobs nationwide, fostering career growth in healthcare and anchoring our communities with an economic output of nearly $85 billion. Take action now! Call your Representative and ask them to show their support for Community Health Centers and the constituents who rely on them for care and employment. Together, let's make our voices heard for the health and well-being of all. #CommunityHealth #Advocacy #HealthcareMatters https://lnkd.in/gd2TN6R6

Half the world’s population will experience many of these health issues; talking about them helps us all learn more and feel more comfortable. Read more: https://lnkd.in/e_hgQkd2 #NWHW #NativeHealth

Disability Policy Consortium
NEXT WEEK: #DAAHR Forum on Plan to Change Disability Evaluations! On Monday, June 24, from 1 to 3 p.m. ET, Disability Advocates Advancing Our Healthcare Rights (#DAAHR), a coalition organized by Boston Center for Independent Living and Disability Policy Consortium, will hold a virtual forum to discuss MassHealth’s plan to establish a centralized evaluation for services for people with disabilities. The proposed Independent Assessment Entity (#IAE) will evaluate individuals on MassHealth, One Care, and Senior Care Options (#SCO) for Personal Care Attendant (#PCA) services, adult foster care, group adult foster care, day habilitation services, and the #PACE program. Historically, evaluations have been conducted by disability service organizations because providers understand disability and independent living—they are culturally and linguistically competent. Advocates are concerned that a single centralized entity might exacerbate red tape; remain faceless, intransparent, and removed from community members' lived experience; be driven by perverse incentives; and reduce service offerings for disabled consumers. However, the Commonwealth believes its plan will improve the current evaluation system and even increase access to services. Attend the forum to learn about the IAE and voice your opinion on whether you want to be evaluated by one entity statewide. MassHealth Director Mike Levine will be in attendance. Register Here: https://lnkd.in/eMuQdSSf. For more information, contact Bill Henning at bhenning@bostoncil.org. #ADA #Accommodations for people with disabilities are available upon request. To submit a request, contact Susan Smith at ssmith@bostoncil.org or (617) 338-6665. Please include a description of the accommodation you need, with as much detail as possible. Provide your contact information in case we need to collect more information from you. When possible, please allow at least seven days' advance notice. Last-minute requests will be accepted, but they may be difficult to fulfill. Your input is vital. Together, we as a community can shape the future of MassHealth. #AboutUsByUs

Interesting opportunity to better serve individuals leaving incarceration and in need of treatment. The Affordable Care Act's (ACA) expansion of Medicaid provided new opportunities to connect enrollees leaving incarceration to coverage and services. The ACA expanded Medicaid eligibility to nearly all adults with incomes at or below 138% FPL ($20,783 for an individual in 2024) in the 41 states that have adopted the expansion. Previously, many adults who were incarcerated did not qualify for Medicaid due to restrictions that excluded low-income adults without dependent children from the program.

People USA awarded Integrated Co-occurring Substance Misuse and Mental Health Treatment Service Grant by Putnam County — MediaContacts.co — This #program will #support #individuals in Putnam #County with Opioid Use #Disorder and co-occurring substance use and #mental #health conditions through #peer support and harm reduction for the broader Putnam County community. POUGHKEEPSIE, #NY #April #26 #2024 This program will support individuals in Putnam County with Opioid Use Disorder and co-occurring substance use and mental health conditions through peer support and harm reduction for the broader Putnam County #community A "peer" is #someone who has lived #experience with mental health, substance use #challenges and/or trauma. The #exciting new addition in this #grant is People USA's ability to #hire a community-based Peer Navigator to Putnam County's substance use #services The Peer Navigator will #meet an #individual #leaving inpatient #rehab and #help them successfully reintegrate into the community. The Peer Navigator will help the individual manage their discharge plan, connect with peer counseling intervention, join community support groups, and facilitate outpatient care referrals. By adding this peer support to the traditional system of care, it will significantly increase their levels of relatedness, social functioning, and engagement in outpatient care following inpatient discharge. Having peer support following inpatient treatment increases chances of successful recovery upon discharge. In addition, People USA will implement a marketing campaign targeting all Putnam County residents using a harms reduction prevention education approach. The goal of the campaign is to engage directly with people who use drugs to reduce harm as well as reduce the stigma in the greater Putnam County community associated with substance use and co-occurring disorders. Knowing that substance abuse can impact people across Putnam County, our marketing efforts will be focused on outreach to the entire community, including places not typically reached by similar campaigns. The campaign will be responsive to the diversity of Putnam County and our team will develop messaging and tactics tailored to address risks specific to the populations in Putnam County, such as age, gender and ethnicity. People USA is a peer-run mental health non-profit that creates, provides, and promotes its own innovative crisis response, and wellness services. ECCHO: Engaging Communities to Change Health Outcomes
ECCHO is so proud to be lifting up the importance civic health and civic engagement! Check out this fantastic webinar by HealthBegins https://lnkd.in/ec2Rmirv Through state waivers and national demonstration projects, Medicaid is increasingly becoming a mechanism to address social needs and advance health equity. Yet one critical and powerful component of health equity is often going unnoticed by innovators: civic engagement. When communities have access to participation and enfranchisement, they can influence the structures and conditions that shape their health. And we know inequities in political enfranchisement and inequities in health are interrelated. As such, civic engagement is a social determinant of health equity. In this webinar, expert panelists will highlight examples of how innovative healthcare providers and plans are already leveraging Medicaid to make civic engagement a part of their health equity portfolio. You’ll learn how to make the case for investing in voting and civic participation as part of a broader health equity strategy, and gain insight into how these new efforts could develop and expand in the future. Speakers: • Rishi Manchanda, MD, MPH, CEO, HealthBegins, (host) • Manisha Sharma, MD, FAAFP, Co-Founder Civic Health Alliance • Douglas Hess, Ph.D., Director of Research, American Physical Therapy Association • Lizette Escobedo, Vice President of Government Relations, AltaMed Health Services Webinar goals: By the end of the webinar, attendees will be able to: • Explain how civic engagement and political enfranchisement is a significant determinant of health equity, particularly for Medicaid beneficiaries • Make the case for health care’s role in facilitating civic engagement and enfranchisement • Identify mechanisms and opportunities within Medicaid that can be used to support civic engagement and enfranchisement among patient populations. • Apply strategies and innovations that are already in use through Medicaid to support civic engagement and enfranchisement among patient populations.Transcript

Love the opening statement in this FAQ doc by CMS which calls on states to expand peer support, and to reimburse at a level that allows peer support organizations like us to pay a living wage (we do, and we can't afford enter some states where the rates are too low). "The Center for Medicaid and CHIP Services (CMCS) strongly encourages states to expand availability and utilization of peer support services to serve adults, youth, and families who experience mental health conditions and/or substance use disorders, including by allowing coverage of peer support services in emergency room and inpatient settings. Furthermore, CMS encourages states to ensure that payment rates for peer support services are sufficient to support a living wage for peer support providers who are critical members of the care team for individuals with mental health conditions and/or substance use disorders." CSG Justice Center
Youth in correctional settings often experience poor health outcomes both during their time in institutions and upon leaving. Unfortunately, due to the longstanding "inmate exclusion policy," Medicaid dollars cannot be used to cover health care services for youth in juvenile justice facilities. Beginning in 2025, new federal legislation will partially waive the policy, expanding Medicaid options to cover services for youth who are incarcerated. All youth-serving systems and providers, including state Medicaid/CHIP agencies, need to be aware of this provision to ensure young people have access to the supports and services they need as they transition back to their communities. A new Center for Health Care Strategies Medicaid policy cheat sheet, created in partnership with the Annie E. Casey Foundation, breaks down the new requirements, as well as important next steps for Medicaid agencies before the provisions take effect. https://bit.ly/3UjriDN
