Yep, it's that time again... pre-release of the latest and greatest #SBIRSTTR topics!! Did you know the pre-release is arguably the most important stage of the SBIR/STTR?? Why: During the pre-release, companies are allowed to talk to the POC!! Meaning: you get to ask all your burning questions, clarify any confusion, drive awareness of you/your firm, and get a 1:1 understanding of the requirement. If you don't take advantage of the pre-release period, you're at a disadvantage. KEEP IN MIND The SBIR/STTR programs aren't for everyone. Whether you have an idea or you have an established firm with a commercial offering, take the time to consider the benefits and drawbacks of the program before jumping in and spending valuable resources. MWI Podcast: Introducing “Ctrl Alt Army” May 30, 2024, Modern War Institute at West Point https://lnkd.in/eKCTriR9 Twenty years ago, in the 2004 National Military Strategy, the Joint Chiefs of Staff described cyberspace as a battlespace “domain.” But just as the physical warfighting domains have become increasingly integrated, with weapons and systems in one domain producing effects in others, cyberspace cannot be conceived of as something fully discrete and separate from the physical domains. In fact, technological advancement and the changing character of war have combined to make cyber issues impact more and more aspects of the Army’s activities. To explore that impact, MWI is pleased to introduce a new podcast, Ctrl Alt Army: Stories from Cyberspace. Hosted by Dr. Michael Sulmeyer, the principal cyber advisor to the secretary of the Army, and produced by his team in the Pentagon, this series will feature discussions with senior Army leaders about cyber issues, how they affect the functioning of Army units and teams, and specific topics within the cyber field.

From Lawfare: On June 5, the Office of the National Cyber Director (ONCD) released a report detailing the comments it received in response to its request for information last August regarding its approach to developing a “framework for reciprocity for baseline requirements with interagency partners.” ONCD received 86 responses to its request—including from trade associations and nonprofit and research organizations. The respondents represent 11 of the 16 critical infrastructure sectors. ONCD described three primary findings from the report. First, lacking harmonization and reciprocity damages cybersecurity and increases administrative burdens and associated compliance costs. Second, businesses in all sectors and of all sizes deal with challenges of cybersecurity regulatory harmonization and reciprocity, and these challenges exist across jurisdictional borders. Third, the U.S. government is appropriately situated to address harmonization and reciprocity challenges.

#ICYMI: On Wednesday, USD(A&S) William LaPlante tested before the United States Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense, where he was joined by the Service Acquisition Executives from the Army, Navy, and Air Force to discuss #DefenseAcquisition. "When you're talking about acquisition, there's really three legs to the stool," he said. "One leg is acquisition, which is the contract. The second is the requirement, and this is about [...] getting what the department needs right for the warfighter. And the third is having money in the right year. Those three legs of the stool — moving across all three in an agile fashion — is the secret of really effective acquisition." He also underscored the value of countries working together to build robust defense production capabilities. "That's where this is all headed," he added. "You're going to see much more co-production, co-development and co-sustainment with allies and partners." Well done - our Military Services require tactical cyber capabilities tied into the broader enterprise and able to operate in support of the Joint Force as part of Multi-Domain Operations (MDO). Air Force is also considering what I will call tactical capabilities to create cyber effects in support of offensive counter air, defensive counter air, interdiction, etc.

The Montana Air National Guard, 120th Force Support Squadron, conducted joint operations with the Montana Army National Guard, focusing on search and recovery training. These operations were aimed at enhancing the capabilities of multi-capable airmen and advancing Agile Combat Employment. The primary objectives of these joint operations, during Agile Vigilante 24, were to: 1. Improve coordination and interoperability between the Air National Guard and Army National Guard. 2. Enhance the skills and readiness of multi-capable airmen in search and recovery missions. 3. Integrate and test advanced Agile Combat Employment technologies in combat and recovery scenarios.Airmen and Army National Guard personnel participated in exercises that simulated various disaster and combat scenarios requiring search and recovery operations. This included wilderness recovery, and post-disaster response. The joint operations yielded several significant outcomes: 1. Enhanced Interoperability: Improved coordination between the Air National Guard and Army National Guard resulted in more effective joint mission execution. This enhanced interoperability is crucial for rapid and cohesive responses to emergencies. 2. Multi-capable airmen demonstrated increased proficiency in diverse operational roles, making them valuable assets in complex mission environments. The 120th FSS joint exercise between the Air National Guard and Army National Guard significantly enhanced the search and recovery capabilities of both forces. The focus on multi-capable airmen and Agile Combat Employment demonstrated the effectiveness of advanced training and technology integration in modern military operations. This collaboration has strengthened the preparedness and versatility of U.S. military personnel, ensuring a robust response capability in diverse operational scenarios. #mca #ace
