What are the common mistakes you might be making in Lead Generation?
OK, let's start with this...super-basic question; are you cherishing and feeding your leads in a CRM? I'm sure most sales pros do, but are you? Experts say it takes a number of touches to get a prospect motivated to move to whatever the next step is. How are you going to do that from a spreadsheet or a pad of yellow-lined paper. I know I'm being a bit ridiculous about this subject, but so many marketers think they are going to close you on an initial outreach. If you don't have one get a CRM...you can get free ones - better than nothing. Build a plan. Then figure out what tools you need to accomplish the plan. And, be certain that you are providing a multi-channel outreach to your prospects.

What are the common mistakes you might be making in Lead Generation?
Since we're talking about "lead gen" here, let's take baby steps and sell to the next "stage," not the close. The value you need to create is to spark interest of course and sell the benefit of whatever you're selling. Your goal is to get your prospect into a conversation. When all of these folks on LinkedIn, or whatever, start shooting out videos to watch or long studies or enormous collateral pieces to pitch, they are not respecting their prospect's time...the most valuable commodity. "Give me 5 minutes and I'll show you how to save $18,500." That is a balanced equation. If you get the prospects interest piqued, you can transition into a longer explanation/pitch/sales presentation by mutual agreement.

What are the common mistakes you might be making in Lead Generation?
In my opinion, not being laser focused on your target prospect "avatar" (aka buyer persona) is a way to waste your time, and perhaps money. We talk about the fact that when you talk to everyone, you talk to no one...very true in prospecting as well. You need to understand the pain points of your avatar, learn as much as you can about their business and speak to those avatars in a helpful, non-advertorial manner. And, remember...it takes many touches to move a prospect to a close, and do it in a multi-channel fashion. They need to "feel you."
