Position Summary
The Education & Training Academic Intern will provide administrative and workflow support for the Education and Training department. They will contribute to comprehensive sex education initiatives by designing and executing an independent project, supporting material development, program promotion, and coordination efforts. Interns will commit 10-15 hours per week for an entire academic year, while gaining valuable hands-on experience in reproductive health and education.

Qualifications
The Education & Training Academic Intern will provide administrative and workflow support for the Education and Training department. They will contribute to comprehensive sex education initiatives by designing and executing an independent project, supporting material development, program promotion, and coordination efforts. Interns will commit 10-15 hours per week for an entire academic year, while gaining valuable hands-on experience in reproductive health and education.
Intern Opportunities
- Design and carry out an independent project in collaboration with the Projects Coordinator and according to E&T departmental needs.
- Assist in curriculum development and auditing with a focus on bilingual, Spanish speaking, and I/DD comprehensive sex education.
- Gain insight on local sex-education initiatives and connect with partnerships across Westchester, Putnam, Rockland, and Suffolk counties.
- Expand research and public speaking skills through community outreach, classroom facilitation, and department presentation opportunities.
To support all affiliate education and training efforts, specifically:
- Provides assistance with the development and organization of educational materials and research for lesson plan creation.
- Assists with the promotion and co-facilitation of sex education programs for youth and adults as per programming goals and guidelines.
- Assists with coordination and attendance of outreach activities including representation at health fairs, public schools, community-based organizations, colleges, and community events
- Assists Projects Coordinator with departmental efforts as assigned, including special projects, DEI-specific interdepartmental projects, and occasional attendance of coalition meetings within PPHP’s regions, and other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Student seeking a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, Gender and Sexualities Studies, Women’s Studies, Sociology, Public Health, Psychology, or other relevant majors.
- Commitment to the mission of Planned Parenthood.
- Excellent organizational, administrative, and writing skills.
- Basic knowledge of computer systems and software, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Understanding of the internet as a resource for research and communication. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team with staff and volunteers or independently.
- Attention to deadlines and confidentiality with content sensitive material in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
- Ability to manage several projects simultaneously with thorough follow-up.
- Spanish proficiency is recommended, but not required.
- Students with familiarity with or interest in I/DD and I/DD education are especially encouraged to apply.
- Students with an interest in bilingual education are especially encouraged to apply.
- Minimum Commitment: Full Academic Year, 9 month commitment (September through May), 10-15 hours per week.
- Occasional possibility of substituting with evening and/or weekend event attendance on a support level basis.
- Hybrid remote and in-person activities (must provide your own transportation)
- Most hours will be completed virtually (subject to change)
- All in-person activities will include COVID-19 safety precautions
- Miscellaneous: Must comply with PPHP policies, with high priority on compliance with confidentiality and social media policies.
- Compensation: Interns are encouraged to arrange to obtain college credit for the internship. Financial compensation is dependent on available funds and may differ from previous or future internships.
