The Northeastern University Archives and Special Collections is seeking a reference assistant who will support reference services and public-facing archival work. This work may include reference digitization, reading room management, and reference research. This position will also have the opportunity to research Northeastern University records in preparation for upcoming anniversary and commemorative events. This position is for someone who is comfortable and welcoming who has the sensitivity to work with diverse community members. Preference will be given to those who can work Tuesday’s, Wednesday’s, or Thursday’s.
Duties May Include
Assist with research projects in university records for events and outreach.
Manage reading room and orient visitors on how to use archival resources such as finding aids or digital collections.
Provide research support to the Northeastern and Greater Boston community.
Digitize and distribute scan requests
Retrieve and re-shelve materials for researchers
Write social media and blog posts promoting Archives materials or events.
Assist with digital exhibits and maintain WordPress site instances
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Enrollment in archival or history degree program, or previous archival work experience.
Excellent organizational skills
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Interest in critical librarianship and inclusive and ethical archival practices
Commitment to lowering barriers to access and use in archives and special collections
Familiarity or comfort with applications and interfaces such as Alma, ArchivesSpace, and WordPress
