Qualifications

  • Valid Washington State Principal certificate, Washington State Teacher certificate required
  • Master’s Degree in Educational Administration or related field required
  • Three to five years teaching experience in a secondary school preferred
  • Three to five years successful administrative experience as Principal or Associate Principal in a secondary school preferred
  • Background check, fingerprinting, and sexual misconduct disclosure required

Instructional Leadership

  • Excellent leadership skills at the high school level and the ability to implement programs that reflect the commitment and direction of the district’s philosophy and strategic planning goals
  • Knowledge and understanding of current educational issues; ensuring curriculum is aligned with standards
  • Ability to develop, implement and engage staff in ongoing professional development with a focus on improving student learning through Professional Learning Communities
  • Facilitate teams that focus on improved student learning

Human Relations

  • Ability to effectively supervise and evaluate building certificated and classified staff
  • Ability to motivate others to change and model appropriate effective behavior
  • Actively participate as a supportive team player and encourage leadership qualities in others
  • Ability to work through challenging multi-layered situations while keeping the focus on positive student learning outcomes
  • Knowledge/experience in working with highly mobile, at-risk populations

Organization

  • Lead staff, students, parents and the community in development and implementation of building goals with a clear focus on the improvement of student learning
  • Support building level priorities in consideration of community and district priorities and student/staff needs
  • Ability to enthusiastically and creatively inspire staff, parents and community

Communication Skills

  • Ability to work collaboratively and productively with district administrators, staff, parents, community members and students
  • Solid communication skills, including the ability to listen and incorporate the ideas of students, staff and community
  • Ability to model technology as an essential integrated tool for teaching, learning and managing building needs
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred

Decision Making Skills

  • Demonstrate clear rationale and process for making decisions
  • Ability to interpret and implement board policies and administrative regulations
  • Understanding of fiscal management and managing a building budget
  • Proven ability to use student achievement data to assist the decision making process

Work Ethic/Professional Commitment

  • Willingness to make a commitment to the school, district and community
  • Establish a school climate that promotes equal opportunities for students, good conduct and positive attitudes and values, and accept responsibility for the attendance, health and safety of students
  • Possess a strong desire for positive results of challenging, yet attainable goals
  • Performs in a supervisory capacity with the principal before, during and after the school day, providing for building and campus security
  • Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as his/her supervisor may assign

Benefits/Compensation

  • 2024-25 Contract: 216 days (pro-rated based on start date)
  • Salary range: $145064-$165070 (commensurate upon experience and building level hired for. The 2024-25 salary will be prorated based on start date). Salary schedules can be accessed here.
  • Additional Compensation: VAPA positions may have additional pay provisions above what is represented on the salary range. Detailed information, including eligibility criteria, can be found in the VAPA CPA. Salary schedules can be accessed here.
  • Benefits: Employees who are anticipated to work at least 630 hours may be eligible for health, dental, vision, flexible spending accounts, life, and disability insurance benefits. Detailed information, including further eligibility criteria, can be found here.
  • Retirement: Employees may be eligible for retirement benefits through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS). Eligibility is based on FTE. Detailed information can be found here.
  • Time Off: Includes paid time off, sick, personal, religious, military and bereavement leave.
    • Sick Leave: 8 hours per month (part-time employee accrual will be proportionate to their FTE).
    • Personal Leave: 3 days per school year
