The Northeastern co-op student from the July-December 2024 cohort will support The MGH Mukerji Lab for Neuroinfectious Diseases. Our research group works in a rich multidisciplinary environment involving clinicians and researchers focused on biomarker discovery at the intersection of neurology and HIV infection.
The Northeastern co-op student will help support the ongoing clinical trial studying people with HIV and depressive symptoms (NCT05570812), as well as observational studies of people with HIV. The objectives for the position focus on study participant recruitment, community engagement, clinical trial operations, and being part of a larger clinical team of neurologists, infectious disease clinicians, and neuroradiologists. The student will directly report to the Clinical Research Program/Project Manager.
Principal Duties And Responsibilities
The Northeastern co-op student will conduct study recruitment tasks in the MGB clinics and in the community settings. Activities may include assistance with tabling events, talking to potential participants, and conducting phone screenings. Some laboratory work is also available for interested and qualified students.
Key Objectives For Specific Role
Assist in study recruitment and retention for an interventional clinical trial for people with HIV and depression
Review and abstract participant medical records, including labs and psychiatric diagnoses
Access participant demographic and clinical information from Epic
Assist the Clinical Research Coordinator and Project Manager in operational items, as needed
Assist in the organization and maintenance of relevant study data
Assist with the preparation of regulatory documents
Assist with data checking, regulatory binders, and QA/QC procedures
Attend study team meetings with collaborators
Maintain ongoing communications with the Project Manager, Clinical Research Coordinator, Research Technician, and the Principal Investigator
Basic laboratory organization and maintenance tasks
Assist with laboratory documentation and biomarker data visualization
Additional relevant duties as assigned

Education
High school diploma. Currently enrolled at Northeastern University pursing a major in health sciences, such as neuroscience, biology, psychology, and public health, or any other relevant majors.
Experience
Any related professional or research experience and familiarity with the basic scientific research concepts will be a plus.
Working Conditions
Duties will primarily be performed at the MGB Assembly Row Corporate Office location.
We anticipate a 32-hour work week; around 8-hour 4 workdays/week (typically 9am-5pm) with flexibility. When study visits occur on weekends or after 5pm, the expectation will be that the candidate stays for blood processing.

Travel may include sites within MGB, including travel to MGH Main Hospital, Charlestown Navy Yard, Brigham and Women’s hospital, and community organizations in the Boston area.
