Hazmat Coordinator

Position title : Hazmat Coordinator

Reports to : BSC Store Manager

Supervises : Driver

Position Summary

The Hazardous Materials Coordinator (Hazmat) (SSA) prepares for the receipt of materials and arrange such for distribution or storage; they are capable of moving and loading or unloading equipment, materials, and products; operating or tending equipment used to transfer material; driving forklifts and related material-handling machinery and equipment. The Hazmat Coordinator also verifies the correctness of incoming shipments by comparing items and quantities unloaded against bills of lading, invoices, manifests, storage receipts, or other records. Examines materials delivered to verify if material that was delivered was the type specified and checks for damaged goods. Uses computerized systems to compile reports of quantity and type of material on hand and what materials have been delivered.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

  • Responsible for accurate, timely, and safe product deliveries.
  • Responsible for loading and unloading of product after receiving goods and for delivery
  • Timely completion of paperwork associated with receiving and shipping daily
  • Ensure the proper loading and operations of vehicles in compliance with DOT, OSHA and Hazmat regulations
  • Accountable for accurate and timely documentation of goods for products received and delivered. Must update all Chemicals in EESOH-MIS database. (Enterprise Environmental Safety & Occupational Health Management.
  • Insure all MSDS sheets are current and processes are in place that will insure accurate and timely updates
  • Operate warehouse equipment and machinery to manage warehouse and product inventory
  • Pull inventory, packs product, and prepares product to ship
  • Communicate with the customer about the placement of the delivery
  • Responsible for keeping a clean, orderly vehicle and organizing the warehouse and yard materials
  • Comply with all company and customer safety requirements
  • Regular and reliable attendance is expected

Marginal Job Functions/Responsibilities

  • Assist other department personnel as time and knowledge permit.
  • Participate in training and meetings as requested.
  • Perform other duties as apparent or assigned.

Qualifications

Knowledge/Skills and Working Conditions:

  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Effective verbal and written communications
  • Utilizing a sound methodology for problem solving and decision making.
  • Performing sampling activities and interpreting analytical data against regulatory requirements
  • Performing waste determinations, packaging, and shipping hazardous materials
  • Basic computer skills including use of Word, Excel, and Outlook (email).
  • Must be able to lift and carry equipment/objects with a maximum weight of 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time in office and warehouse environments.

Education And Work Experience

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Knowledgeable of EESOH-MIS program
  • Two years of related experience.
  • Must have a valid Drivers License and a safe driving record
  • Must complete forklift certification within 30 days of hire
  • Must obtain First Aid/CPR card
  • Receive RCRA training and respirator certification within 90 days of hire
