Job Summary

Reporting to the IT Manager – Applications/Data Warehouse, the Business System Analyst – Business Intelligence & Analytics plays a crucial role within our organization, acting as a functional expert in Business Intelligence processes and data analytics. Collaborating closely with the designated functional area teams (Corporate, Commercial, Finance, HR, Operations, Supply Chain, or Environmental and Safety), this role is responsible for comprehensively understanding business needs, analyzing requirements, and delivering impactful advice and solutions of moderate to high complexity that drive tangible business value.

The Business System Analyst – BI & Analytics is instrumental in achieving the mission and vision of Viant’s Data Analytics team. Developing a secure and robust architecture is paramount to supporting the business units as applications transition to maturity.

Additionally, this position collaborates extensively with the Business Applications Team to identify and manage data integration with our business partners' data repositories and ensure adherence to service-level agreements.

Duties & Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the Business System Analyst – Business Intelligence & Analytics encompass a wide range of tasks to maintain and enhance core data domains while facilitating potential expansion into adjacent domains. Key duties include:

  • Analyzing business needs and devising solutions that offer substantial business value, often dealing with moderate to high levels of complexity.
  • Crafting and generating data sets and visualizations as necessary, leveraging best practices to enhance reporting and analytics quality.
  • Performing various data-related tasks such as extraction, scrubbing, and transformation, along with maintaining metadata and data dictionaries.
  • Establishing governance and lifecycle management processes for all relevant data domains.
  • Orchestrating the data warehouse strategy across the entire enterprise.
  • Executing SQL queries to pinpoint data issues, implement data fixes, perform manual extracts, etc.
  • Designing conceptual, logical, and physical data models to underpin the Enterprise Master Data Management system.
  • Applying data quality techniques, including matching, merging, profiling, score carding, standardization, and parsing, utilizing enterprise data quality platforms.
  • Aiding in troubleshooting and resolving Master Data Management (MDM) issues, offering solutions aligned with master data strategies and best practices.
  • Conducting data fixes using advanced SQL and staging tables.
  • Providing expertise on MDM and ETL (Extract, Transform & Load) concepts.
  • Assuming ultimate accountability for the accuracy of all pertinent data, executing any necessary data updates endorsed by leadership.
  • Collaborating and partnering with relevant business processes and digital solutions to ensure alignment with strategic roadmaps and seamless integration of existing data domains and business processes.
  • Developing, documenting, and communicating the purpose of all relevant data attributes, definitions, and acceptable values to stakeholders, ensuring organizational alignment and understanding.
  • Designing, implementing, and operating necessary business processes to monitor data health, swiftly identify and remediate data health issues, and visually manage performance metrics across management levels.
  • Conducting stakeholder training as needed and participating in data governance forums as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, statistics, computer science, management information systems, or closely related technical disciplines; master’s degree in data science is a plus.
  • 7+ years of proven experience in data management/data architecture.
  • Proficiency in SQL & Python or R.
  • Extensive experience with ETL processes and tools.
  • In-depth knowledge of data modeling, data architecture, and data warehousing.
  • Good understanding and expertise in Supply Chain network planning, financial operations & related systems
  • Experience developing multiple cleansing and standardization scenarios using mappings & industry-standard products.
  • Experience collaborating with developers on designing & developing integrations that can integrate Master Data with other systems.
  • Experience in implementing and working with Oracle and SQL Server databases.
  • Working knowledge of business reporting tools PowerBI and Orbit Analytics.
  • Experience implementing large-scale, complex Master Data Management products.
  • Experience working in an agile environment with cross-functional teams.
  • Working knowledge of Kinaxis Rapid Response is a plus.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Evidence of innovation, problem-solving, and structured thinking skills.
  • Must be able to work independently and in a team environment with limited direction to complete work assignments accurately and on time, prioritizing multiple requests for competing projects and day-to-day customer support.
  • Proven track record delivering simple, practical & sustainable solutions.
  • Fluency in English required.
  • Passion for Customer Success and continuous improvement.
  • Successful candidates have a balance of functional (business) and technical experience.
  • Ability to travel 40% to domestic and some international facilities.
  • Authorized to work in the United States

Preferred Education, Experience & Skills

  • Direct medical device manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Understand manufacturing processes and ERP systems and possess strong root cause analysis skills to identify correlations and draw conclusions.
  • Exceptional organization, time management, and communication skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication and presentation skills to accurately document and report findings to a variety of audiences
