JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The Clinical Dental Assistant provides chairside assistance, clinical/laboratory support, sterilization/disinfection of equipment and facilities, ordering of supplies and equipment, escorting patient to and from the clinic, and facilities maintenance for active postdoctoral prosthodontics clinic.
Duties And Responsibilities
Assists operator at the dental chair; arranges instruments, materials, and medications on prepared tray and aids dental operator (dental student/faculty).
Provides chairside assistance to the dental hygienist. Seats and prepares patients for treatment.
Clears operating area during procedures by use of suction devices, water sprays, cotton rolls and holders, and by retraction of cheek/tongue.
Prepares and/or mixes impression materials, dental cements and luting agents, pressure indicating paste, and other prosthodontic materials.
Provides assistance with clinical photographic procedures.
Receives, processes, and access patient records (make entries of procedures, materials used, amount of time involved, charges amount, etc.)
Counsels with patients following clinical procedures; explains instructions and directions outlined for treatment by the doctor; teaches oral hygiene strategies.
Ensures working area, instruments, and equipment meets OSHA sterilization regulations.
Performs preventive and routine equipment maintenance.
Orders and maintains inventory of supplies and equipment.
Completes and submit fee tickets for payments made by patients.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: One (1) year experience working chairside in a dental practice. Must maintain registration as a licensed dental assistant in the State of Tennessee. Nitrous Oxide Monitoring and Radiology Certification required. (PROOF OF LICENSURE IS REQUIRED). (Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) with the Dental Assistant National Board Certification (DANB) is preferred. Graduate of CODA accredited school preferred.)
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: A Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) in the State of Tennessee, with certification in radiology and nitrous oxide monitoring is required. CDA (DANB) certification preferred. (PROOF OF LICENSURE IS REQUIRED)

Ability to be part of a responsible, efficient, and respected dental care team in an busy prosthodontic educational environment and participate on a team striving for quality oral health care.
Strong communication skills and exceptional hand skills.
WORK SCHEDULE : This position may occasionally be required to work weekends and evenings.
