About the Opportunity

Northeastern University's Office of City and Community Engagement (CCE) invites applications for the Community Relations and Programs Manager position. Reporting to the Director of Outreach and Programming and working closely with staff across the Office of City and Community Engagement (CCE), the Community Relations and Programs Manager will play a key role in developing relationships and delivering programs to the Fenway, Roxbury, Mission Hill, and South End neighborhoods.

This position will collaborate with the CCE team to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders across the university and surrounding communities to deliver programming. This includes regularly attending neighborhood association, public safety, and community resident meetings and relaying learned information to the Director of Outreach and Programming and the AVP of City & Community Affairs.

This position will collaborate with the Director of Outreach and Programming in the buildout of program concepts and implementation, with a specific focus on activating and monitoring programs at Northeastern Crossing. This position will also support the identification and documentation of successful processes/programs and areas where improvements can be made for the establishment/execution of future programs and will conduct relevant analysis to determine the potential impacts of programmatic work. They will record and review the data and metrics associated with program progress, particularly at Northeastern Crossing.

This position will be the primary supervisor of Northeastern Crossing use and space. This includes overseeing bookings, communicating to the community about the resources available, tracking usage of the space, and coordinating a team of student workers who provide coverage of space at Northeastern Crossing.

This position will work closely with CCE leadership to identify opportunities to increase the university’s visibility and positive image of its community-engaged strategies and their impact on specific communities. They will collaborate with other CCE members for division- and campus-wide priorities related to community engagement. Such activities can include – but would not be limited to – serving on CCE-wide committees, participating in office-wide training, retreats, and special events.

The position is primarily in person on the Boston campus. The Community Relations and Program Manager’s schedule may vary based on programs and events and they must be available on weeknights and weekends periodically.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Two to four years of experience with community-based organizations, program planning, and/or institutional community engagement.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Possess exceptional written, verbal communication, and interpersonal skills, a high degree of professionalism, sensitivity to political dynamics, a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and a proven record of strategic thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Produce consistent excellent quality and thoroughness of work, with a high degree of attention to detail.
  • Experience in higher education is not needed, nor it is desired.


Key Responsibilities: Community Relations, Northeastern Crossing Management and Community Programs, and Project Management

  • Regularly attend neighborhood association meetings, housing development/resident events, public safety meetings, etc
  • Oversee the booking and use of Northeastern Crossing, CCE’s most public-facing space intended for community use and community-focused initiatives. Develop and implement programs, primarily at Northeastern Crossing.
  • Oversee team of students who provide support for Northeastern Crossing event coverage.
  • Collaborate with other CCE members for division- and campus-wide priorities related to community engagement. Such activities can include – but would not be limited to – serving on CCE-wide committees, participating in office-wide training, retreats, and special events.
