We are seeking a highly skilled and analytical Corporate Controller to lead the financial accounting and reporting needs of a rapidly growing private company. The Corporate Controller will have overall responsibility for the accounting process, provision of GAAP financial statements, external auditor engagement and internal controls compliance. This position will play a crucial role in supporting our financial strategy.
This role will work closely with the Chief Financial Officer and have extensive interaction with other senior employees in the company, specifically scientific species leads. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer and will ultimately manage a team of at least two others (Accounting Manager and Accounts Payable Specialist).
This position will be remote with a preference for the Boston or Dallas areas** Some travel will be required (1x per quarter to Dallas if not local).
Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting and Analysis:
Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements
Design and manage the monthly closing process adequate to ensure timely and accurate financial statements
Conduct thorough financial analysis to support strategic decision-making and optimize operational efficiency
Budgeting and Forecasting:
Collaborate with department heads to develop annual budgets and long-term financial forecasts
Monitor budget performance, identify variances, and provide insights to management for course correction as necessary
Continuously refine budgeting and forecasting processes to improve accuracy and efficiency
Internal Controls and Compliance:
Establish and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets
Coordinate with external auditors for periodic audits and ensure timely completion of audit procedures
Stay updated on relevant accounting standards and regulatory changes impacting the biotech industry
Team Leadership and Development:
Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to the finance team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement
Collaborate cross-functionally with other departments to drive financial literacy and accountability throughout the organization
Education, Experience & Skills Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA certification preferred
Extensive experience (8+ years) in financial management, accounting, or auditing roles
Prior experience in the biotechnology, life sciences or technology industries highly preferred; familiarity with pre-IPO and IPO processes is a plus
Strong technical accounting skills and proficiency in GAAP accounting
Exceptional analytical abilities and strategic thinking skills, with a demonstrated track record of driving financial performance
Proven leadership and team-building capabilities, with the ability to inspire and motivate others towards achieving common goals
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams
High degree of integrity, ethics, and professionalism, with a commitment to upholding the highest standards of financial integrity and compliance
Pay Range
$180,000—$240,000 USD
