Overview:
The African American Chamber of Commerce seeks a senior level Membership/Membership Engagement professional with extensive knowledge of the membership life cycle. This role will oversee initiatives to attract and retain new businesses, and increase revenue for members. The Executive Director of Membership will design and drive core systems of the membership department ensuring the department’s success and strategic alignment with the goals of the chamber.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Membership and Supplier Diversity Development:
Formulate and implement a strategic plan for membership growth and retention, integrating supplier diversity initiatives to highlight our members as key suppliers to anchor institutions
Design and launch innovative membership programs tailored to the diverse needs of current and potential members, focusing on initiatives for disadvantaged, veteran, and women-owned businesses
Organize and execute procurement-focused events, workshops, and training sessions to equip members with essential tools and strategies for engaging successfully with anchor institutions
Establish partnerships with anchor institutions and corporate partners to create a pipeline of opportunities for our members, ensuring a continuous flow of potential business engagements
Recommend advocacy positions for supplier diversity and inclusion within the broader business community, positioning the Chamber as a leader in fostering economic empowerment for black businesses
Data-Driven Leadership and Innovation:
Manage ChamberMaster database to ensure accurate member tracking and to enable detailed analytics on membership trends and engagement levels, supporting strategic decision-making
Leverage data insights to refine and personalize member communications and programs, ensuring they align with members’ evolving needs and preferences
Lead the Membership Coordinator and departmental staff, instilling a culture of high performance, continuous improvement, and teamwork, while setting clear departmental performance metrics
Conduct regular performance reviews to ensure team alignment with Chamber goals, providing consistent feedback and acknowledging achievements
Innovate membership assessment methods to better capture member satisfaction and engagement, facilitating the introduction of targeted improvements
Communications and Marketing:
Develop and distribute a monthly newsletter to members, highlighting key events, member achievements, and Chamber updates
Create engaging graphics and visual content for the Chamber's promotional materials, website, and social media platforms
Manage and maintain the Chamber’s social media presence, including content creation, scheduling posts, and engaging with followers to enhance the Chamber's visibility and member engagement
Collaborate with the marketing team to ensure consistent branding and messaging across all communication channels
Analyze and report on the performance of communication and marketing efforts, making data-driven recommendations for improvements
Community Relations and Stakeholder Management:
Serve as the Chamber’s chief ambassador at community events, conferences, and meetings, enhancing the Chamber's visibility and influence
Develop and sustain strategic relationships with business leaders, government officials, and community stakeholders to champion the interests and needs of the Chamber’s members
Engage in public speaking opportunities to articulate the Chamber's mission, goals, and achievements, increasing awareness and support among potential members and partners
Initiate collaborative projects and partnerships with other organizations and chambers of commerce to share resources, knowledge, and opportunities, benefiting our members and the wider community
Monitor and engage in policy discussions and legislative changes affecting the business community, ensuring the Chamber’s and its members' voices are heard in relevant forums
Qualifications:
Education: Advanced degree in Business Administration, Organizational Leadership, or a related field preferred
Experience: Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in membership organizations, with a strong background in supplier diversity and program development
Skills:
Expertise in strategic planning, team leadership, and program management
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement innovative membership and supplier diversity strategies
Strong analytical skills with experience in database management and data-driven decision-making
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire a diverse range of stakeholders
Certifications:
Diversity and Inclusion Certification highly desired.
Familiarity with Six Sigma, and other relevant certifications is a plus
