The mission of Lake Junaluska is to be a place of Christian hospitality where lives are transformed through renewal of soul, mind and body.
Located in the Smoky Mountains of Western North Carolina, Lake Junaluska is a ministry of The United Methodist Church and plays a vital role by providing a location for training and renewal. Each year Lake Junaluska will host over 200,000 guests who are engaged in spiritual training, recreation or renewal events and activities. Our guests include religious, non-profit and secular groups. We are also a residential and vacation community.
Essential Functions
Responsible for receiving dirty laundry in carts and loading washing machine with like materials. i.e. keeping things separate and straight. Ex. Whites/colors, sheets/towels, and from which building the laundry originates.
Programing washing machines -turning on and selecting correct cycle for the desired outcome.
Unloading wet towels/sheets/linens from machines into carts. Then pushing carts to the dryers and loading into dryers.
Unloading dryers and taking laundry to folding tables. Folding items neatly and keeping sheets, towels and linens organized with similar types, properly prepared for laundry truck to deliver.
Must be able to do repetitive work, frequently monotonous in nature.
Must check inventories of chemicals and communicate with supervisor when ordering is necessary.
Must keep laundry area clean, dusted and mopped. Cleans lint traps out daily.
Must answer calls from around campus
Scrubs, disinfects and deodorizes all laundry carts daily.
Must maintain professional appearance including wearing a clean, pressed uniform and keeping clean hands and good hygiene in order to handle clean, white linens
Must be honest, reliable, and prompt.
Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures and report any unsafe activities or conditions immediately to supervisor or the Human Resources department.
Immediately report any damaged, non-properly functioning, or unsafe machinery or working condition to the supervisor and/or Director.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned and required.
A combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma and a minimum of 1-year relevant experience.
Hospitality experience strongly desired.
Must have demonstrated good communication skills, client relation skills, and a commitment to providing responsive and conscientious customer service.
Must be flexible and able to adapt to changing needs, multiple task demands, and work structures.
Ability to manage time effectively to ensure all tasks are completed in the time allotted.
Ability to read and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formats.
Ability to effectively present job-related information upon request to employees of the organization.
Proven organizational skills and interpersonal skills are required.
Ability to solve practical problems and handle a variety of employee questions.
Ability to support the Mission and Vision of Lake Junaluska is essential.
Must be willing to work a flexible schedule
Working conditions
Moderate to heavy physical activity performing strenuous and non-strenuous activities with moderate to loud noise.
Mostly Indoor work with some occasional outdoor work. At times exposed to elements such as; heat, cold, wind, rain.
Eye to hand coordination and dexterity. Works with fingers and hands to grab, handle and perceive attributes of objects and materials.
Ability to coordinate work, consistently moves about, able to stand for prolonged periods of time or walk about. Also able to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, talk to and hear and understand staff requests, and lifts or otherwise move objects weighing up to 200 pounds.
Must be able to work with a variety of chemicals, including pro-quaternary and bleach based products.
Must have good vision to monitor grade of cleaning. Able to identify and distinguish whites and colors, stains, rips or tears in materials.
Must be able to bend into carts to retrieve items.
Must be able to pull laundry that sometimes tangles/wads from carts and machines.
Must be able to work in warm temperatures.
Must be able to handle sheets/towels without allergic reactions to cleaning chemicals.
Must be able to push/pull full laundry carts around laundry floor (on wheels but heavy).
Work Schedule: Variable Monday - Sunday to include days, nights, weekends, holidays as required.
