The Assistant Automation Manager is a subject matter expert and seasoned professional accountable for safety, quality, and maintenance of all automated production equipment and for supporting the full-spectrum automation needs of the business as related to food production within a food processing environment. Due to the needs of the business as it relates to this position, which supports multiple locations, frequent travel is required in this position.
Job Duties
Troubleshoot machinery and correct malfunctions.
Supervise maintenance repairs, equipment installations, and help prioritize work as needed.
Isolate problems and applying solutions that minimize downtime and maximize production.
Work with engineers and management to make modifications, followed up with testing for system performance and stability.
May require some travel if the business need requires. Will depend on staffing in the department for frequency.
Delegate work to automation team and ensure completion of projects.
Train and develop production, maintenance, and automation team members on all automated equipment, including safety and design.
Maintain schedule work compliance at or above company goal.
Ensure team’s compliance with all safety rules, regulations, and procedures.
Supervise automation team and direct workflow.
Assist in reducing maintenance costs and overtime.
First point of contact for Automation issues for regional facilities
Required Skills And Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge of sufficient mechanical skills necessary to complete the functions of this position effectively, and the ability to perform and understand automated machinery, tools, and equipment.
Be able to read and follow wiring diagrams.
Ability to troubleshoot machinery and correct malfunctions.
Be able to build automation systems based on engineer’s designs.
Knowledge of using a Multi-meter, Oscilloscope, and other test equipment
Ability to design and test system prototypes.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate degree (AA/AAS) and/or Certificate of Training completed from an accredited school or training program in a relatable field of study, or a minimum of 3-5 years of experience.
Ability to read, write and speak English with enough proficiency to execute the duties of this position, and adequately interact with cross-departmental staff effectively.
Ability to travel frequently (up to 35%), and maintain a flexible schedule often including evening, weekend, and holidays, when business needs arise.
Two years of experience with electrical components, previous electronics training, or prior experience in the Automation field
Ability to work with minimal supervision and think independently.
Knowledge of computer applications (such as Microsoft Office, Excel, Word etc.)

Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS)
Previous experience in a fast paced, high volume food production/manufacturing facility
Prior working knowledge of OSHA, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), FDA, USDA and EPA regulations
