Manufacturing/ Process/ Industrial Engineer

Job Description:

  • As part of a small, passionate, and accomplished team of specialists, you will develop a coordinated manufacturing system maximizing state-of-the-art manufacturing processes to design and manufacture sophisticated space launch vehicles.
  • Partnering with manufacturing and facilities, you'll lead this process and gather the manufacturing and facility needs, utilize Lean techniques, and create meaningful foundations for high-efficiency manufacturing processes.
  • You will work with a team of welding engineers, automation engineers, and operators to seek sophisticated challenges related to process implementation, monitoring, and inspection.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead manufacturing-related projects
  • Lead operations improvement - ergonomic & human factors, operations plans, recovery planning, capacity planning and capital planning
  • Provide production support - scheduling, theory of constraint, budget & forecast, crew empowerment, defect analysis, core competency definition, make/buy evaluation, benchmarking analysis
  • Identify and prioritize process improvement projects - lean manufacturing, engineering economic analysis, process mapping, root cause analysis, statistical methods, six sigma and time studies
  • Facilitate system integration - Value Stream Analysis, Facility Layouts, Production Systems Design, Manufacturing Process Design, Systems Thinking, Facilities Planning, and Requirements

Main Responsibilities:

The hired candidate will execute a time-motion study directly on the field.

  • Perform time studies, make observations, and form opinions regarding issues identified, their cause, and possible solutions.
  • Through time studies, observations, or data analysis, gathers data to form opinions regarding issues identified, their cause, and possible solutions.
  • Performs analysis aimed at improving operations, determining hourly labor requirements, and developing planning standards. In addition, assists with analyses that are smaller subcomponents of larger more complex projects.
  • Provides input into the design for simple studies (and under the direction of the supervisor); plans study schedule, meets and trains hourly data collectors (when applicable) and ensures that data is being collected properly. Based on study observations, provides input to aid in troubleshooting and problem-solving. Manages the data input and organization of time study data collected.
  • Develops ad hoc queries and reporting needed for others/users to track and monitor operating performance. Updates and maintains existing databases and spreadsheet tables.
  • Gathers and manipulates large quantities of data into a format necessary for analysis.
  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training, and team member involvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Work directly at consolidating and validating the industrial engineering models
  • This position encompasses all manufacturing areas in support of the build of NEW GLENN and provides a unique opportunity to fully contribute to the build of one of the biggest rockets the word has seen.

Required Qualifications:

  • BS in Operations Research, Industrial, Manufacturing or Mechanical Engineering
  • 4+ years of experience working directly with manufacturing in a production environment
  • Demonstrated ability in manufacturing and/or facilities planning
  • Factory flow, process modeling, and simulation experience
  • Experience leading continuous improvement and value stream mapping events
  • Strong analytic skill set and a high degree of proficiency in data mining
  • Exceptional with Excel and manual data analysis
  • Excellent Interpersonal Communication Skills
  • Self-Starter
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum

Desired Qualification:

  • Operations Management, Construction Management, MSE and/or MBA
  • Manned space flight production experience
  • Project Management Certification (PMP)
  • Six Sigma Black Belt Certification
  • Experience transitioning development to production
  • Strong teaming skills
  • Experience with manufacturing organizations and/or supply chain
  • Hands-on experience with materials and manufacturing processes

Required Skills:

  • Process Modeling: Capacity to elaborate a process flow for a specific build. Assign key data for each step of the operations. Determine efficiency/utilization as well as learning curve standards
  • Cost/benefit analysis: Knows how to carry on ROIs. Knows the different return on investment calculations and when they apply
  • Process measurement: Has been exposed to time study campaign. Understands the different ways to collect data and how to sample work measurements. Is aware of the impact the measurement can have on the data itself
  • Manufacturing process: Can break down the process into subtasks and make a flow proposal
  • Production system design: Understands how a manufacturing shop floor shall be operated. Understand operating plans and what / how production signals are communicated
  • Facilities layout design: Knows how to use AutoCAD / Visio and can interpret data and make shop floor/facility layouts for a production area
  • Operating plans: Knows what data shall be available in an operating plan and what information is needed to build one
  • Labor Budgeting: Understand what information shall be accounted for in the development of labor estimates
  • Capacity Analysis: Is proficient at carrying on capacity analysis. Know the inputs, the key variables as well as the outcome of the analysis and how they shall be interpreted
  • Recovery Planning: Makes different proposals to recover the planning actioning of the following levers. Additional assets capacity, additional shift and resources. Reduction of the process variability. Improvement of the process
