Our client, a global Biotech Research provider, is looking for a Proofreader to join their team. As a Proofreader, you will be responsible for ensuring that all materials reflect the highest level of quality, readability and alignment with brand tone and voice standards. The Proofreader ensures grammatical, legal and factual accuracy in all copy. This role is responsible for error-free quality, consistent and accurate materials. The Proofreader must exhibit proficient editing/proofreading skills, outstanding attention to detail, deadline sensitivity, autonomy and teamwork in completing assigned projects and tasks. In addition, a basic knowledge of scientific messaging is needed to ensure final materials are accurate, clear, consistent, and impactful.


Key Responsibilities:

Copyeditor

  • Proof content, impose consistent styles and reword or rewrite work as needed to improve readability
  • Suggest changes, verify links, sources and correct grammar and punctuation to prepare the work for client presentation and publication
  • Edit according to project specifications
  • Code copy for design features, such as hierarchy of headings, to instruct the production team
  • Ensure that graphics and illustrations are correctly captioned and referred to in the text
  • Collaborate with project management team as needed for specific project objectives
  • Ensure all editing results in a consistent voice and tone across all copy and is in alignment with the brand tone and voice standards
  • Edit and be accountable for the final review of writing assets
  • Ensure brand messaging guidelines and directives are embraced and adhered to in all executions
  • Become familiar with legal guidelines to expedite approval process
  • Deliver edited, complete and error-free copy


Proofreader

  • Read and provide comment on all advertising and promotional projects to ensure:
  • Accuracy of spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax and context
  • Accuracy of references, web addresses, phone numbers and other data
  • Compliance with brand guidelines
  • Correct usage and presentation of company and brand trademarks and logos
  • Consistency and accuracy of layout components (spacing, capitalization, etc.)
  • Overall continuity, consistency, clarity and presentation
  • Proofread design and copywriting projects in a variety of print and digital mediums
  • Ensure all client, legal and compliance annotations are correctly interpreted and addressed
  • Follow a style checklist to ensure consistency in trademarks, hyphenation, capitalization, formatting of references, etc.
  • Provide proofreading signoff on projects at final release to ensure accuracy.
  • Maintain strict adherence to deadlines
  • Train new hires on proofreading procedures
  • Create and update proofreading best practices and consultation guides
  • Adhere to departmental standard operating procedures and workflows
  • Understand clients’ products, audiences and business objectives and ensure copy is accurate and effective
  • Interact with project managers to resolve issues, negotiate revisions and verify information whenever necessary
  • Communicate clearly and promptly with manager and studio staff
  • Closely collaborate with designers
  • Actively learn new techniques to be more proficient in editing skills
  • Leverage research and data to inform editing executions
  • Be pragmatic with editing executions always keeping eye on the project objectives
  • Embrace the notion every project is an opportunity to make an impact


Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • Proficient expertise in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat
  • Proficiency in AP and/or Chicago Manual of Style and standard proofreading marks
  • Understanding of editing applications in multichannel marketing applications
  • Outstanding quality control practices
  • Highly developed emotional intelligence and culture building skills
  • Ability to project manage/traffic personal workload with minimal supervision
  • Ability to state opinions clearly and verbally describe purpose of edits
  • Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Highly organized and multitasks effectively
  • Excellent eye for design consistency
  • Strong written communication skills
  • Team player with excellent relationship-building skills
  • Adept at embracing brand voice and tone then deploying consistently


Education/Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in English or journalism
  • Minimum of two years of professional-level copy editor/proofreading experience required
  • External or in-house agency experience required
