Description

In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Clinical Risk Program Manager is responsible for continued development and implementation of a comprehensive patient safety program which includes reducing risk and eliminating harm to patients. The Clinical Risk Program Manager will create appropriate measures to identify and minimize the risk of injury to patients, visitors, and staff, and to minimize loss or damage to property. This position maintains the strictest confidentiality of all patient information while promoting the concept of cooperation and develops open lines of communication with department employees, patients, visitors, and other personnel within and outside the hospital. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times.

Job Functions

  • Proactively evaluate areas of organizational risk based on internal assessment and external benchmarking; and assists in formulation of risk reduction strategies, policy and other programs.
  • Effectively develops and implements patient safety program which includes management of risks and elimination harm to patients within Memorial Health System.
  • Coordinates and aligns safety efforts through the system and with the quality and strategic goals of the system and actual outcomes.
  • Coordinates and facilitates the timely investigation of all serious safety events through the implementation of root cause analysis and other investigative tools including the assessment for the need of focused review by departments or peer review.
  • Respond to sentinel events and other serious occurrences and provide expert advice in the management and reporting of such events to administrative and clinical leadership and staff.
  • Responsible for maintaining, analyzing all patient safety data and clinical risk management data and reporting to appropriate committees; individuals; and others. This includes internal and external data.
  • Reviews, analyzes, and coordinates improvement efforts as needed on the CMS safety of care metrics such as the patient safety indicator reports, incident reports, root cause analysis and others.
  • Provides information/data to legal Risk management re: data trends; actual and potential clinical risk management events.
  • Serves as the Patient Safety Officer for the system including serving as a liaison with external regulatory agencies.
  • Serves as a resource for the Memorial Health System for national trends; state and federal regulations in patient safety as well as best practices to reduce harm and risk mitigation.
  • Develops education for staff regarding clinical risk management and patient safety.
  • Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.

Qualifications

Minimum Education/Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree as a Registered Nurse required; Masters preferred; Successfully pass CPHQ within 3 years of hire.

Special Knowledge, Skills, Training

  • Strong organizational skills; ability to analyze, interpret and assimilate information; demonstrated knowledge in using clinical information systems; possess effective interpersonal skills; strong working knowledge of hospital organization and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Compensation Details: Education, experience, and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended.
