Job Description

TMZ is seeking a Supervising Producer to oversee and manage our Clearance department. The ideal candidate must have an exceptional understanding of intellectual property contracts and key provisions. As a Supervising Producer, Clips and Clearance, you will be responsible for acquiring, negotiating, costing, and clearing rights on behalf of TMZ. The position requires the ability and willingness to work in a fast-paced environment, as well as to manage and prioritize workflow according to our programming needs. This role will interact daily with other Clearance staff, Production, Legal, and other departments.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise clearance and archives across all TMZ media
  • Manage team of Clearance Producer and Associate Producers
  • Acquire, negotiate, cost, and clear asset rights on behalf of TMZ
  • Buy, license, and obtain permission for use of photos/videos from freelance vendors
  • Collaborate with Accounting department to ensure timely and accurate reporting of costs
  • Develop contacts, cultivate sources, and maintain relationships to aid in securing future assets
  • Manage clearance budget and report costs on a daily basis to stakeholders
  • Work with Business Affairs to resolve any major questions pertaining to assets while exhibiting strong in the moment judgment on any issues and questions
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field
  • 7+ years experience working in series or news television
  • Proven record of tracking archival/clearance costs across multiple projects concurrently
  • Understanding of intellectual property concepts and Fair Use
  • Knowledge of photo/video storage systems such as Reach and Dalet, a plus
  • Ability to think quickly, problem solve and have exceptional organizational skills
  • Ability to negotiate and execute licenses and other contracts
  • Ability to anticipate show needs, meet deadlines and be a positive team member
  • Knowledge of entertainment, celebrity news, pop culture & current events
  • Strong telephone/communication skills

Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay range for this role, with final offer amount dependent on education, skills, experience, and location is: $140,000.00-150,000.00 annually for California. This role is also eligible for various benefits, including medical/dental/vision, insurance, a 401(k) plan, paid time off, and other benefits in accordance with applicable plan documents. Benefits for Union represented employees will be in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.
