Job Overview

The Assistant Technical Designer supports the technical design team by ensuring fit, quality, and construction with precision engineering for production while maintaining design aesthetics and integrity. They collaborate closely with the Technical Design team to ensure seamless communication. Additionally, they execute accurate, detailed tech packs for all counter samples and assist in integrating 3D Clo in the pre-fit process.

What You Will Do

• Ensure adherence to Macy’s Private Brand/Product Standards and guidelines for fit, construction, quality, safety, and cost savings; drive fit consistency, quality, and workmanship to maintain brand integrity.
• Prepare for fit sessions by measuring samples, entering measurements into PLM, taking fit notes and photos, and following fit protocol.
• Follow the end-to-end seasonal calendar to ensure deadlines are met, and escalate any issues with deadlines to the next level.
• Support brand and company initiatives.
• Assist the technical design team with all aspects of using 3D technology in the pre-fit process to reduce sample iterations and expedite the fit approval process.
• Help update the Brand Block Library (specs and e-patterns) and maintain the Virtual 3D Block Library.
• Provide clerical support for the area of responsibility.
  
  

Skills You Will Need

Knowledge of Patternmaking, Fit, Construction, & Grading: Understanding these areas is essential to ensure the accuracy and quality of the garments.

3D Apparel Software Proficiency: Experience with 3D tools such as Clo3D is crucial for assisting in the pre-fit process and reducing sample iterations.

Proficiency in PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) and MS Office Suite: Efficient use of these tools is necessary for managing technical data and communications.

Measurement and Technical Specification: Ability to measure samples accurately and prepare detailed tech packs.

Manufacturing, Machinery, & Production Processes: Familiarity with these processes helps in understanding the practical aspects of garment production.

Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to ensure seamless interaction with the Technical Design team and other stakeholders.

Collaboration: Ability to work effectively in a dynamic team environment and support company initiatives.

Problem-Solving Abilities: Proactive approach to troubleshooting and resolving issues that arise during the design and production process.

Detail-Oriented: Strong attention to detail to maintain accuracy and quality in all tasks.

Organizational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently and meet deadlines as per the seasonal calendar.

Analytical Skills: Capability to analyze data and measurements to ensure consistency and quality in fit and construction.

• This position requires heavy lifting, constant moving, standing, and reaching with arms and hands. Involves standing for at least two consecutive hours, lifting at least 30 lbs. stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders. May involve reaching above eye level. Requires close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
