Job Summary:
The Terminal Manager oversees and directs dispatch functions, equipment maintenance, drivers, billing, auditing, and local rail terminal operations. Additionally, this individual initiates, coordinates and enforces operational policies and procedures while placing the utmost importance on compliance with all safety rules, regulations, and policies at the terminal. Will collaborate with the Director of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) and divisional leadership to achieve and maintain a high safety performance for the terminal. Responsible for the terminal’s performance in meeting the company’s stated goal of Zero Recordable Injuries.
The Terminal Manager is responsible for operating the terminal within the budgetary planning constraints as defined within the Monthly Operating Plan (MOP). A focus on P&L execution, with a goal of 25% in Net Income, will be a point of emphasis.
This role will provide leadership for the terminal staff, to include providing good order and discipline in alignment with the company’s morale, culture and goals. This individual will organize and manage the staff to ensure that work is satisfactorily executed in accordance with organizational requirements.
The Terminal Manager will direct and document investigations to verify and resolve customer complaints; will serve as the main contact for all workers assigned to the terminal; and will ensure that all terminal staff are properly trained in all safety and operations functions for the site.
Essential Functions/Duties:
DOT Safety Compliance
Responsible for ensuring drivers & company assets stay in compliance with DOT, FMCSA, and FRA regulations
Conduct investigations, in cooperation with the Director of EHS and divisional leadership on any work related injuries, accidents or incidents that occur at the site
Assist the Compliance Department in providing required documents for drivers’ DQ file, housed in TenStreet, along with properly and expeditiously notifying drivers of scheduled and random drug & alcohol testing.
Ensure EHS compliance of all drivers is maintained
Daily audit of driver hours of service to ensure continuous compliance
Monitor GeoTab & Netradyne reports daily to weekly; filter Netradyne events. Coach & encourage drivers through Netadyne use daily/weekly/monthly. Immediately address any events requiring coaching or discipline
Facilitate quarterly safety meetings with all drivers, including any make-up meetings, as needed
Ensure the Drug & Alcohol program is properly adhered to and administered for all terminal personnel
Driver Management
Maintain daily rapport with drivers. Provide positive leadership to staff, through the administration of company policies and programs, including disciplinary policies
Recruit, hire, train and, when required, terminate drivers and terminal personnel
Monitor and approve driver pay through PLXP E-Pay portal
Ensure documented compliance with the Terminal Driver Pay System
Approve and make accessorial driver pay entries into the system
Administer and maintain driver expense reimbursement program for the terminal
Provide data required to VP/AVP & Safety that impacts incentive pay programs.
Ensure driver qualification files/documents are collected and maintained in accordance with company standards
Ensure all required performance evaluations are performed on all terminal employees
Monitor and ensure Driver Logs are maintained and in compliance with federal mandated standards
Maintain driver supplies and forms including driver Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Inspect drivers’ assigned equipment to insure company standards are being met
Dispatch
Prepare and/or approve daily dispatch; ensure drivers are being routed in an efficient and productive manner to include consideration for product compatibility and wash requirements in regard to Plastic Express procedures
Interface with PLXP Customer Service Representatives (CSRs) to ensure the customer requests are being met.
Communicate items that will effect delivery performance
Serve as dispatcher and rail supervisor as needed
Maintenance
Responsible for mechanic and wash crew supervision, when applicable
Ensure that all washout inspections of trailers are completed and regular services are being performed in a timely manner, to include parts inventory
Ensure that all outside maintenance is being performed in a timely fashion, and as directed by the Velocity Maintenance Director, including the tractor & trailers’ 90-day service intervals
Responsible for payroll and documented training for wash crew & mechanics
Overall equipment maintenance to include:
Manage all equipment; communicate with AVP & Velocity Maintenance Director to resolve any issues
Oversee company wash, wax, and polish program to comply with Plastic Express standards
Upload maintenance records to Fleet@plasticexpress.com.
Communicate with tire vendors, and truck and trailer vendors for service
Rail Terminal
Oversee the rail terminal activities and personnel; maintain timely and accurate inventory management
Collect, maintain and/or ship railcar samples as requested by customer
Ensure driver hook-up to railcars & tanks are being verified using PX Drive, prior to driver’s loading or pulling a tank
Order and maintain supplies and equipment utilized in the course of normal business at the rail yard
Make arrangements for any rail yard maintenance
Ensure terminals and office housekeeping standards are being met
Act as a liaison between Plastic Express and local railroad contacts
Ensure Plastic Express owned scales are in good working order, properly calibrated, and in compliance with all state & local requirements/licenses
Sample and Seal Program
Oversee sample retention and driver seal records for terminal compliance
Order and maintain sample bag & railcar seals inventory from vendors
Financial Responsibility
Work with billing department to ensure accessorial charges are included in billing when necessary
Review terminal’s Income Statement with AVP & VP monthly
Monitor Cost Center entries on P&L to insure accounting accuracy
Communicate and work with AVP, VP, divisional leadership and accounting to correct/maintain an accurate P&L
Recommend capital expenditures of new equipment or property to AVP or VP, in order to increase effectiveness and/or efficiencies in regards to the services/operations of the site
Qualifications:
Required Education And Experience
High school diploma or equivalent
Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
Experience driving combination vehicles
Two (2) years management experience (preferably in a trucking environment)
Preferred Education And Experience
Bachelors’ Degree or greater
Five (5) years or more general management experience in a trucking environment

Supervisory Responsibility:
This position has significant supervisory responsibilities. Will supervise: drivers assigned to the terminal, wash crew, rail terminal employees, dispatchers, and mechanics.
Work Environment:
Expected to operate in a professional office environment as well as routinely operating in the warehouse and rail yards. Will be required to service customer’s deliveries potentially including the driving of semi-trucks, and loading and offloading trailers. Will routinely use standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, and scanners. May be required to use hand tools and work on or under trucks and trailers.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Typical office hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some weekend work will be required. Must be available any time terminal deliveries are taking place.
Travel:
Some travel will be required – approximately 10-20%.
