Environmental Working Group

Video Producer and Editor

The Environmental Working Group (EWG), a leading environmental health research and advocacy organization, is seeking a Video Producer and Editor to join its dynamic team in its Washington, D.C., office.

Since 1993, EWG has shined a spotlight on outdated legislation, harmful agricultural practices and industry loopholes that pose a risk to our health and the health of our environment.

Whether it’s on Capitol Hill or in communities across America, we make our voices heard, changing the debate over environmental health and putting the most important people – you and your family – at the center of the conversation.

The Video Producer and Editor, reporting to Senior Director of Social Media, will play a central role in managing EWG’s video program to ensure the creation of compelling and impactful videos that resonate with our audience across different social media platforms.

In this role, you will be responsible for the video content on EWG’s social media channels, including conceptualizing, shooting, editing and delivering high-quality videos that effectively communicate our mission, campaigns, and initiatives. You will also be responsible for productions ranging from quick-turn pieces responding to current events to long-range evergreen stories and features.

The Video Editor and Producer will ensure video content is delivered according to an established calendar, manage day-to-day social media videos, manage internal and external channel distribution and publication, and coordinate EWG partners and stakeholders involved in video content production.

Responsibilities:

Content creation:

  • Develop innovative and engaging video content tailored for different social media platforms (YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, etc.)
  • Collaborate with internal teams to understand campaign goals and translate them into visually captivating narratives

Video production:

  • Plan and execute social-first video shoots, including setting up lighting, capturing quality audio, and filming on location or in a studio
  • Direct and coach on-screen talent to ensure a compelling and authentic representation of EWG's messaging

Editing and post-production:

  • Edit raw footage into polished, shareable videos optimized for social media
  • Incorporate graphics, animations, and other visual elements to enhance storytelling and engagement
  • Ensure consistency with EWG's brand guidelines in all video content

Optimization for social media:

  • Stay updated on the latest trends and algorithms on social media platforms to optimize video content for maximum reach and engagement
  • Implement strategies to increase video performance, including crafting compelling thumbnails and captions, and utilizing appropriate hashtags

Management:

  • Manage the video calendar to support larger organizational communications efforts
  • Manage external video partners for creating longer-form or high-production videos (e.g. videos played at in-person events, documentaries, etc.)

Qualifications:

  • Three or more years proven experience as a video producer and editor, with a strong portfolio showcasing work on social media platforms
  • Proficiency in video editing software (Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, etc.). Experience with motion graphics is a plus
  • Ability to manage social video shoot processes, including pre- and post-production
  • Strong understanding of social media trends, algorithms, and best practices
  • Excellent storytelling and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Exceptional time management skills and ability to work under tight deadlines
  • Excellent judgment, a self-starting quick learner with common sense and a creative brainstormer
  • Ability to travel when required

Preferred experience:

  • Knowledge of EWG’s issues and a curiosity about the impact of the environment on our health

Location: Washington, D.C., office

Benefits: Annual salary range of $65,000 - $80,000. Salary is commensurate with experience. EWG offers fully paid, excellent health care, paid parental leave and a tax-deferred 403(b) plan, including matched contributions. It’s a casual, growing office with dozens of engaging co-workers.
