Wildlife Biologist II

Job Responsibilities

This employee will be responsible for conducting management and research activities for freshwater fisheries resources in Region IV.

Job Duties Include

• Collecting and supervising the collection of scientifically reliable data.
• Analyzing data collected with statistically valid methodology.
• Conducting fish kill investigations according to established protocol.
• Identifying freshwater fisheries management opportunities and developing management strategies that are based on reliable data collected from the lake and reservoir systems and other scientific sources.
• Contributing to public outreach programs.
• Answering inquiries in a timely fashion.
• Participating in peer-reviewed publication.
• Assisting with writing and editing Federal Aid and internal reports.
• Attending professional meetings and presenting on work projects.
• Assisting private pond owners with the management of their ponds.
  
  

Minimum And Additional Requirements

A master's degree in biology, chemistry or related technical area field; or a bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, wildlife management or related technical area and two (2) years of experience relevant to the job.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of the principles and practices of fisheries management. Knowledge of South Carolina's fish species, including their habits, habitat and reproduction requirements. Knowledge of techniques for analyzing water chemistry/quality and identifying harmful organisms. Ability to conduct fisheries management and research projects, including data management, statistical analyses, and technical writing. Ability to operate boats, electrofishing equipment, and associated electronic gear. Ability to work with all project personnel to accomplish fisheries management and research objectives.
