🚨 Rule Alert: California's SB 54 🌍 The Plastics Pollution Prevention and Packaging Producer Responsible Act (SB 54) was signed into law in June 2022 to tackle single-use packaging and plastic food service ware. 🔥 CA's groundbreaking SB 54 is reshaping the plastic game: 🔹 Slash single-use plastic by 25% by 2032 🔹 Recycle 65% of it 🔹 Make ALL single-use plastic recyclable or compostable 🔄 Big twist: Producers, not consumers, now carry the plastic pollution baton! SB 54 has adopted an extended producer responsibility model where single-use plastic products and packaging manufacturers are responsible for end-of-life disposal. 🤯 Navigating regional laws = Complex & $$$ Keeping track of all the different regional laws is becoming increasingly difficult for companies and costly. 👉 Pro Tip: Play it smart! Stick to the strictest standards to future-proof your biz across the board. Less hassle, more savings! 🌱 Go green, stay clean: Third-party verified compostable solutions are your best bet. 🌟 Spotlight: NEXE Pod, the BPI-certified #compostablecoffeepods. Powerful hearing today on a National Bottle Bill in the Senate Committee on the Environment and Public Works. Susan V. Collins (Container Recycling Institute), Jules Bailey (Oregon Beverage Recycling Cooperative), and Stephen Alexander (Association of Plastic Recyclers (APR)) provided a perspective on the value of deposit return systems for reclaiming and using recycled materials. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse from Rhode Island asked some difficult questions about whether single-stream #recycling (for plastic) was a “scam” designed to fool consumers into believing their #plastic was being recycled when only a fraction actually is. The responses from the witnesses on how the plastic real recycling rates are 5, 6, 7 times or more (for everything in the DRS and not just plastic) when DRS is used vs single-stream raised a lot of eyebrows. Single-stream may be convenient and often recycling infrastructure is built around single-stream. Sometimes it is is effective for many things. Regardless, there is always waste in single-stream because of contamination and the combobulation problems with putting everything in one bin. But the effectiveness of DRS is increasingly hard to deny. Having productive dialogue with all stakeholders in high profile political forums is one positive step—even though it may not solve the problems. #sustainability #circulareconomy #glass #aluminum #cans

In line with the EU's commitment to building a circular economy, we're delving into the world of packaging, exploring how it can drive sustainability and innovation. The European Union is leading the way in shaping policies that prioritize packaging's role in the circular economy. While recycling and reuse are vital, it's essential to recognize that packaging serves more than just a waste management function. It's about functionality, sustainability, and overall performance. Proposed legislations must ensure that all packaging entering the EU market is not just environmentally friendly but also "fit for purpose." This approach aligns with the ultimate goal of policymakers - reducing waste and fostering sustainability. Let's embrace packaging that's not only recyclable but also efficient, functional, and sustainable – find out more on the FEFCO - European Federation of Corrugated Board Manufacturers website. #SustainabilityMatters #CircularEconomy #PackagingInnovation #EURegulations

States Leading the Charge on Advanced Recycling! 🔄 In recent years, the call for sustainable practices has amplified, propelling state legislatures to the forefront of the conversation on plastics recycling. ♻️ With a keen eye on the circular economy, innovative methods like advanced recycling have emerged, seamlessly blending mechanical and chemical techniques to transform materials into reusable commodities. From thermal decomposition to chemical dissolution and mechanical separation, advanced recycling offers a multifaceted approach to breaking down materials, paving the way for a greener future. 🌍 The 2023 legislative sessions witnessed history in the making, with 38 bills concerning advanced recycling deliberated across 23 states. And the results speak volumes! Eight of these bills were successfully enacted, marking a significant stride towards a greener future. Notably, Indiana, Kansas, and Utah have emerged as trailblazers, setting up advanced recycling standards for the very first time in their states. With their inclusion, we now have 24 states paving the way for responsible plastic management practices. At Collective Circularity, we're inspired by these decisive actions and remain committed to advocating for sustainable solutions. Together, let's continue driving progress towards a world where recycling isn't just a choice, but a way of life. #SUSTAINABLEFASHION #GREENINITIATIVE #TOGETHERFORCHANGE #TEXTILETOTEXTILE #CIRCULARECONOMY #WEARTHECHANGE

As a company committed to eliminating single-use plastic packaging by 2026, Decathlon is proud to be a member of the global Business For A Plastics Treaty coalition. We need a joined up approach to accelerate the elimination of plastic waste. Which is why we’re calling on governments to include 3 critical areas into the global #treaty during this week’s #INC4 negotiations: 1. Restrictions and phase-outs for problematic plastics. 2. Mandatory product design requirements, based on clear definitions and harmonised criteria. 3. Implementation of Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulations based on common modalities. And as a #sports company, we love the short video developed by Ellen MacArthur Foundation and WWF convenors of the coalition and to whom we owe big thanks for bringing over 200 organisations together to speak with a united voice. #plasticstreaty #plastics #circularity #circulareconomy #endplasticwaste https://lnkd.in/eyhq7rd8
