“Pride started as a riot, as a call to action,” says Elizabeth Schedl, executive director of Hudson Pride Center. “It’s a celebration of who we are, but it’s also about activism and all that’s left to be done.” The LGBTQ+ community faces barriers when it comes to physical and mental healthcare, that Hudson Pride Center works to overcome. By offering gender-affirming care, housing, healthcare, support groups, and other much-needed resources, Hudson Pride Center is helping the LGBTQ+ community thrive. June is Pride Month! 🏳️🌈 For the month of June, we'll have some weekly LGBTQ+ Housing facts for you. The LGBTQ+ community tends to be significantly younger than the non-LGBTQ+ population. Specifically, 52% of individuals identifying as LGBTQ+ are under 35 years old, while only 23% of those identifying as straight and cisgender fall into the same age group. These age disparities account for roughly half of the difference in homeownership rates between LGBTQ+ and non-LGBTQ+ individuals, as younger people are generally less likely to own homes compared to older individuals.

🌈 Celebrating Pride Month with Our Elderly Community!🌈 At Interim HealthCare, we believe in honoring and supporting our LGBTQ+ seniors who have paved the way for progress and equality. This Pride Month, let's recognize the unique experiences and challenges faced by older LGBTQ+ individuals and ensure they receive the care, respect, and love they deserve. Why It Matters: - Visibility: Many LGBTQ+ seniors have lived through times of intense discrimination and may feel isolated. Let’s ensure they feel seen and valued. - Support: Older LGBTQ+ individuals may face unique health and social challenges. Providing inclusive and understanding care is crucial. - Community: Building a supportive community helps combat loneliness and fosters a sense of belonging. How You Can Help: 1. Listen and Learn: Take time to understand the history and experiences of LGBTQ+ seniors. 2. Show Support: Advocate for inclusive policies and practices in healthcare and senior services. 3. Celebrate Diversity: Join in Pride Month activities and events that honor our LGBTQ+ elders. Together, let's create a world where everyone, regardless of age or orientation, feels celebrated and supported. Happy Pride Month! 🌈💜 #PrideMonth #LGBTQSeniors #InclusiveCare #CelebrateDiversity #InterimHealthCareSTL

I utilize digital communications to tell Black & LGBTQ+ rural stories | Speaker | Creator | Writer | Rural Health | Reproductive Justice
“As the studies and surveys cited here demonstrate, #LGBTQ+ people living in #rural communities encounter the same mental healthcare challenges as other rural Americans, but the disparities in accessing resources and appropriate treatment can be even more difficult because of existing prejudices and discrimination. It’s a call to action for rural communities to come together to increase awareness and dispel the stigma experienced by LGBTQ+ individuals. Some ways communities can help to tackle the disparities include: In rural #healthcare – Educate the workforce, put in place inclusive systems of care, and implement policies that address discrimination. In rural schools – Implement practices and policies to support #LGBTQyouth. In local and state governments – Propose and support laws and public policies that enforce protections against discrimination of LGBTQ+ people.” #RuralHealth

October is LGBTQ+ History Month In 1994, Missouri high-school teacher, Rodney Wilson, founded LGBTQ+ History Month to celebrate and honor the history, contributions, and achievements of the LGBTQ+ community. While great strides have been made since LGBTQ+ History month was founded, there is still much more that can be done to foster a more inclusive world for the LGBTQ+ community especially in the financial industry. While these changes cannot be made overnight, they do require an intentional effort from all of us. Members of the LGBTQ+ community often face unique financial challenges, making personalize financial planning imperative to support these investors. To learn more about how you can better serve your LGBTQ+ clients and better understand their unique needs, sign up to become a CERTIFIED ADVISOR FOR WOMEN™ or CERTIFIED ADVISOR FOR NEXTGEN™ professional, and watch Willow’s CE Seminar, “Engaging Investors in the LGBTQ+ Community” moderated by Candice McGarvey, CFP® (available for one CE credit hour). #LGBTQHistoryMonth #FinancialPlanning #InclusiveFinancialPlanning
