This week marks Carers Week 2024, a time to shine a spotlight on the silent dedication of unpaid carers. This year’s theme “putting carers on the map”, is a call to acknowledge the invaluable contributions these individuals make every day in the UK.  As an organisation that values compassion, we’re proud to have achieved the second level of Carer Positive Award at the Established Employer level. This distinction underscores our commitment to providing an environment where carers feel valued and supported. Embracing a carer positive culture has tangible benefits , including reduced stress levels and sickness absence and lower costs related to recruitment and training. More importantly, it allows us to benefit from the exceptional qualities that carers embody – remarkable organisational skills, adept multi-tasking, profound empathy and unwavering resilience. We understand that juggling work with caring duties can be very difficult. That’s why we make every effort to put in place reasonable adjustments and the necessary support to ensure our carers can thrive both in the workplace and at home. In the circle of support, change to benefit those who value sharing and caring, to believe in and support an idea, concept, and system. It's a personal investment in appealing to our emotions, wants, and needs. This investment is about strengthening and empowering ourselves and driving social impact. Time is a crucial element in emotional buy-in, as timely decisions can significantly influence the organization's success and the well-being of its members. The mission of "Buy-in” is the acceptance and willingness to support and participate in social value. The drive for social impact is recognizing that wasting is not an option. Shared responsibility for accepting their appeal to their emotions, wants, and needs. If you buy into it, believe it; shared responsibility is for all. We are all in it together, strengthening more with the significance of making timely decisions. This act aligns with the value of time spent without wasting it and demonstrates how time-wasting can impact the organization, its members, employees, and families. It's about recognizing that by not wasting in all its forms. We are investing in our success and the success of our society.

We upgraded our Weekly Wins to September Successes!💪🏼 It’s been a few weeks since Sarah K. and I have been able to catch up and share our Weekly Wins so this week we thought we would mix things up and talk about our September Successes instead! When thinking about the month as a whole, I was surprised by how many of the small tasks I had successfully completed, often overshadowed by my every growing to-do list. I came out of our meeting with a fresh energy for October! I wanted to share some of that positive energy by posting September Successes with you which included: ✅ Delivering a great staff session on facilitating Significant Care workshops for carers ✅ Developing a series of Carers First resources for carers which I am hoping will be ready to share on Carers Right Day (November) ✅ Working with a diverse range of carers and organisations to explore new approaches to carer support. ✅ Attending a brilliant carer’s panel session where Jacqui Darlington BEM brilliantly shared her experiences, learning and advice for other carers. I also finally settled into my newly set up office! It’s been a great month all round. It was Carers week in the UK last week and I’m delighted that we launched our Carer Passport scheme as part of our approach to supporting colleagues who look after family or friends who have a disability, illness, or who need support in later life.   Around 1 in 9 people in any given workforce will be juggling work with caring roles – and this is likely to increase over time. Yet caring is not an easy issue to talk about at work, either with colleagues or with line managers or the HR team.   One of the reasons for operating a Carer Passport scheme is to help make these conversations easier, more normal, and more open.   That’s essentially what a Carer Passport is – it’s recognition that combining work with caring can be challenging, and that as an employer we want to make it OK to talk about the support and flexibility that could enable colleagues to do their best in both vital roles.   It means that we are serious as a business about trying to find solutions that work for both parties and that colleagues are supported and will never be penalised for asking.   What’s more, a Carer Passport means that whatever flexibility and workplace support is put in place will remain even if the role or manager changes, without colleagues having to explain their circumstances over and again.   Our Senior Leadership Team and I are in agreement that doing what we can to support Carers in our workforce is as good for our business as it is for the Carers themselves.   To accompany the scheme, we also launched our Carers policy in which we have gone above and beyond the new UK legislation which was introduced this month. The amount of Carer's leave that employees will be afforded is up to two weeks paid leave and one weeks matched leave in any 12-month rolling period.   Our aim is to create a workplace in which our colleagues feel safe and supported to enable them to bring their whole selves to work, and one which supports them to remain in work during challenging periods of their life. #carers #carerspassport #HR #MediqUK #Mediq

DWP Market Engagement Event The DWP Market Engagement Event will take place on the 7th/or 8th May and will discuss a potential replacement for the Commercial Agreement for Employment and Health Related Services (CAEHRS) Framework which is due to expire on 4th October 2025. It will be open to the whole market with DWP presenting high-level thinking of future plans regarding the possible replacement for CAEHRS, while also conducting a live Question-and-Answer Session, so colleagues from the DWP Commercial Team can respond to any concerns or queries that the market may have. There are two events scheduled, however the content of these sessions will be identical, therefore you do not need to attend both. ✅ Did you know that carers make up 11% of the UK’s workforce? That’s 1 in every 9 employees! Caring is far more demanding and unpredictable than any other outside of work commitment. This is why in April of this year the right to statutory carer’s leave was introduced, meaning that from the first day of employment, employees are now entitled to one week every twelve months to give or arrange care for a dependent. In addition to honouring this new law, consider introducing flexible working policies to allow carers to work around their caring obligations - being unable to get the flexibility or time off needed is one of the biggest reasons carers leave employment entirely. The benefits of flexible working policies include: ✔️ Reduced stress ✔️ Reduced recruitment and training costs, due to a higher retention rate ✔️ Increased productivity ✔️ Less absences 🔗Want to know more about how to put carers on your business’ map?
