TD Bank has recently announced that it will be providing an estimated $2.8 billion in credit to small businesses as part of its three-year Community Impact Plan. This plan aims to offer around $20 billion in lending, philanthropy, banking access, and other activities to benefit diverse and underserved communities. The plan has been developed in collaboration with the National Community Reinvestment Coalition - NCRC and will focus on communities across 15 states and Washington, D.C. It will mainly target small businesses operating with less than $1 million in annual revenue, focusing on minority- and women-owned, and veteran-owned businesses based in low- and moderate-income (LMI), and underserved communities. DBS Foundation is now the anchor partner for the ComLink+ Progress Packages for Preschool and for Home Ownership, which will be supporting lower-income families with children. It involves the contribution of over SGD 30 million to fully support the community-funded portion for these packages over the three years – projected to benefit around 8,500 children and 1,400 families respectively per year. The bank will also mobilise 400 DBS employees to serve as volunteer befrienders to the families and journey with them, aimed at helping the families make sustainable progress towards their long-term financial goals. This is the first initiative under the bank’s SGD 1 billion pledge to uplift vulnerable segments of society over the coming decade. The collapse of regional banks, like Silicon Valley Bank, and first republic affect more than the banking system, and Wall Street. These disruptions impact the communities and organizations these banks serve. The National Diversity Coalition was recently interviewed by San Francisco Business Times, featuring our Board Chair, Pastor Andre Chapple. We discuss the collapse of SVB and acquisition of First Republic and the ramifications it has had on our community and programs.
