Reflecting on an incredible week at #BESummit24! Last week at the Breakthrough Energy Summit in London, we had the privilege of showcasing Pivot Bio's innovative nitrogen-fixing technology and highlighting why we think it’s the best source of nitrogen for growers and the environment. It’s inspiring to witness so many brilliant minds and passionate individuals dedicated to transforming the future of energy. Our piece of that transformation is nitrogen. Nitrogen is the fuel that feeds the world. Every plant needs three essentials to thrive: water, sunlight, and nitrogen. However, more than 99% of nitrogen exists in a form that plants can’t use. Traditionally, synthetic fertilizer has played a crucial role in converting nitrogen into a usable form, enabling nearly half of the world's food consumption. At Pivot Bio, we’re enhancing this process with system-positive solutions. Since 2022, growers using our technology have reduced CO2e emissions by over 932,500 metric tons—equivalent to the emissions from 2.5 gas-fired power plants! Our microbial solutions consistently deliver more nitrogen to plants, offering better resilience to growers and significant environmental benefits. My Top Takeaways from the Summit: 1️⃣ There’s so much scalable technology out there ready to tackle big challenges. But it’s not just about the tech; deep cross-sector collaboration is crucial to scaling these solutions quickly enough to meet the climate challenge. It’s the intersection of finance, technology, and policy that drives real progress. 2️⃣ We must continue our work while acknowledging the vital role policy and regulatory frameworks play. These frameworks should open new pathways to market and support these great innovations, bringing new value and providing more solutions to farmers, our end-users. 3️⃣ Empowering food producers worldwide is critical, even when the value differs across regions. Our nitrogen solutions need to be adaptable to diverse global needs. It was also an absolute pleasure to chat with Bill Gates and former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair, who stopped by our exhibit at the innovation showcase. I’m incredibly grateful for Breakthrough Energy Ventures long-standing support and the privilege of being part of this event. “We take on the hard things because the world needs us to do it” – Rodi Guidero, Breakthrough Energy Executive Director Cooper Rinzler Peter T.
