After attending the same schools and working together at their local pool years ago, Anthony Assante, AIF, MBA, and Matthew Arendt reconnected at a hometown reunion. It seemed they picked up right where they had left off, and as the conversation turned to work, they discovered they had something else in common. Anthony had been an independent advisor since 1999, coming to Commonwealth after feeling disillusioned by wirehouse life. Meanwhile, Matthew spent the past two decades in a captive environment. Chatting with Anthony, he realized the depth of his dissatisfaction and how attractive independence could be. “We kept the conversation going, and I helped him see his options,” Anthony said. “After all, I had been in a similar environment pre-Commonwealth and was sympathetic to the challenges and limitations.” After a year of due diligence, Matthew was ready and reassured by the comprehensive support Commonwealth could provide for their new venture, Atlantic Wealth Advisors—including almost-instant access to advanced planning support for HNW clients. “It’s sort of unbelievable,” said Matthew. “I can’t even believe this space exists.
