As an industry and at Mars Veterinary Health, we've made strides to create a more sustainable veterinary profession by doing our part to help address the workforce shortage and increase access to care—but there's more work to be done. As Molly McAllister, DVM, MPH, our Chief Medical Officer, articulates in her piece in the latest Fountain Report, leveraging innovation and developing solutions designed for a digital world are necessary to sustain our profession for generations to come. Our data-driven clinical research and use of technology to augment care are just a couple of the ways we're shifting how we work across our global practices. Over the years, we've witnessed a deepened understanding of the human-animal bond thanks to organizations like Human Animal Bond Research Institute (HABRI) and Waltham Petcare Science Institute, paired with a shift in pet owner expectations around pet healthcare delivery and the support needed for pet caregivers. This evolution continues to inspire innovation and advancements, a few of which I enjoyed reading about in the The New York Times' special pet section on Sunday. Featured among them are programs and initiatives from Mars Veterinary Health and the broader Mars Petcare family such as: - The MARS PETCARE BIOBANK—which stands to be the most comprehensive real-world study of its kind aimed at enabling new scientific discoveries to improve pet health—and is made possible by participating Banfield Pet Hospital, VCA Animal Hospitals, and BluePearl Pet Hospital clinics - BluePearl's community-driven pet blood banks that support life-saving transfusions and are helping create a sustainable supply of life-saving blood products in light of the critical shortage industry-wide - Social workers on staff at VCA who support the mental health and wellbeing of Associates and clients in our clinics, part of our growing network of 20+ in-house licensed clinical social workers across our U.S. practices Our purpose at Mars Veterinary Health — #abetterworldforpets — comes to life through programs like these and countless others that raise the bar on the care delivered in our clinics around the world. Rethinking pathways into the veterinary profession continues to be a vital part of addressing industry-wide shortages. We’re honored to be part of solutions, most recently in the form of a $1.7 million donation to The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine to build on our long-standing partnership with the university by creating several additional scholarships for students pursuing small animal specialty disciplines. Supporting students with the goal of limiting their financial burden and increasing veterinary graduates is one small way we can make positive change for the future, creating a more sustainable profession—and ultimately, #ABetterWorldforPets. #ProudlyMars
Empowering veterinary students to pursue their passion is one of the ways we are committed to addressing the veterinary shortage. Our donation to The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine will enable scholarships for fourth-year students, a small animal resident, and two small animal interns annually—supporting efforts to increase the number of specialists entering the workforce, and ultimately improving access to much-needed care. We can’t wait to see the impact these future veterinarians will have on pets in their communities. Learn more at: https://lnkd.in/drMmiiz6

Mars Veterinary Health is honored to help lead this significant work alongside the AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) and various dedicated industry leaders. We will continue to partner with the broader industry to meet the needs of veterinary professionals and clients in service of the profession, and ultimately our Purpose: A Better World for Pets.
Together with the AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) and a working group of industry leaders, we are thrilled to unveil the Positive Pet Care Guide – a new resource aimed at strengthening the relationship between veterinary teams and clients in support of providing the best possible care to pets. The guide, which can be printed and displayed in your clinic or provided to clients as a helpful tip sheet, outlines shared expectations of both veterinary professionals and pet owners to help foster healthy lines of communication and drive mutual trust and respect. We are incredibly proud of the way leaders from across the profession – including Mars Veterinary Health and its practices Banfield Pet Hospital, BluePearl Specialty + Emergency Pet Hospital, and VCA Animal Hospitals, the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC), the National Association of Veterinary Technicians In America (NAVTA), Not One More Vet (NOMV), Veterinary Hope Foundation (VHF), VETERINARY MEDICAL ASSOCIATION EXECUTIVES INC (VMAE), and Veterinary Hospital Managers Association (VHMA) – came together to create this much-needed resource that we’re confident will have a positive impact on hospital teams, pet owners and patients. Visit avma.org/PositivePartners to access the Positive Pet Care Guide, along with usage tips, hospital talking points, and more. To show your support for the guide and commitment to positive pet care interactions, engage with us on social via #positivepetcareguide.
